RE: 2005 F3A World Championships
The T Tail on CPLRs plane is indeed to clean up and improve the airflow over the tail surfaces. This helps K/e and other manouvres that rely upon strong tail controls such as snaps and stall turns etc.
BPLR has also now fitted this to his model having tried CPLRs and noticed the difference !
Interesting stuff alright !

I think that so far first place will not be that difficult to see to whom it might be going, but in the other hand from second and on looks pretty tight, the average is high, but again sometimes the winners are the ones that do not make any mistakes or do not have any bad luck. Lichtenstein is the other team to watch. Anyway all have to fly to all the judges and one good or bad day will make all the diference. Good luck to all the teams.

Got the numbers for Day 2
Starting to shape up
Taken from Aug 22 pdf file, again not normalized. Looks like TBL is changing
the numbers slightly as the judges are seeing more and more pilots.
If the winners of the rounds stay in place the normalized will be as shown
below.
Rd #1 Unless someone else beats the current winning score and TBL
calculations will slightly affect the numbers as the judges see all the
pilots......The normalized numbers are the best the pilot can do currently
for a normalized score becasue of the score that is leading the round..
CPLR is really pushing the normalized scores down.....He is posting some big
numbers. As you would expect from the 3 time champ in his home country.

RE: 2005 F3A World Championships
Hi Adrian
I do not think DZ170 would be available in a year, as YS MFG way. We are always not sure when we could get even current DZ160.
Never the less here in Japan, many guys could not get DZ160 yet . there still on back order over a year.

The japanese flyers will always have the YS motors at lest a year before anyone. They can say its for testing but its a huge fashon advantage for recognition, for placing. (ps i know Paysont has one but he should cause hes the master of manipulation + skill, that top fuse fin thing why have a small wing on top of fuse when you have one 10 times bigger in middle of fuse lol he is still trying to fly a bipe i guess).

RE: 2005 F3A World Championships
For anyone attending the World Championships: Is there a difference in sound between Roland or Wolfgang Matt's Onyx and Jason Shulman's Impact? The reason I ask is from the photos posted on the PL.F Concept website and Wolfgang Matt's website, it appears the Hacker in the Onyx is not shock mounted while I believe Jason may still be using rubber grommets to isolate the motor from the airframe. My C50 is not shock mounted and is very quiet in the air. I can't help but wonder if shock mounting is needed or worth the effort considering the natural low noise level of electrics and lack of vibration.

I guess CPLR is a fan of F-1 technology.
Pretty soon, you will see spoilers with adjustable angles, may be even winglets.

RE: 2005 F3A World Championships
Hi all,
We're sitting here in the Internet room watching as the !QUOT!rain!QUOT! is falling. Brian Clemmons, ATM...Assistant Team Manager, not money machine, yet, has his laptop and has been updating the US site on Bryan Hebert's site (link in previous post).
Summary:
Show up at the airport 2 hours early only to find out we were to be on the flight prior to !QUOT!our!QUOT! flight and our tickets were canceled. An hour later and a couple 1st class tickets, and JJ at US Airways had us and the planes going to Paris.
5 hours in customs, but cleared the way for the rest of the competitors.
2 hours to get the car, but like the 1st class ticket here, we now have a 1st class SUV for the price of a Van.
Eiffel Tower was good, even for only the 30 minutes we were there.
Drive down with our !QUOT!guide!QUOT! Kitty, right to the town.
Driving around the small town looking for the hotel, 1 hour until we found it.
Checked in and Dave and I got a Suite ( 3 beds, big tv...).
Our designated practice site is 88km, 1-way, from our hotel.
Plug in my power supply and smoked it and then blow the fuse for the room outlets.
Plug in my soldering iron to make up the back-up controller... smoked it too.
Use my dremel and it's no longer a variable speed version.
Go to the practice field and go to program my back-up controller and smoked my Prog-Box.
Get back to the room and turn on the light only to smoked the bulb.
First time Team Manager, Brian Hebert, and Assistant Team Manger, Brian Clemmons, have done an outstanding job and have even surprised us a few times with getting things before we actually needed them.
I'm glad I'm not a smoker....
Flying is going well for all of us. It's been windy like Poland, only this year it's right in our face. We are all wind burned and dry mouthed. EVERYONE here helping with putting on this Worlds have been bending over back wards to help out. I'm sure it's not just for us, but for everyone. Sleep has been minimal, but we all know how to order Big Macs and Royal Bacons at McD's! It's the only restaurant that's open after 6pm (4pm on Mon.). I don't have too many pics, but I'll try and take more to post when I return home.
CPLR/BPLR's !QUOT!wings!QUOT! are right from CPLR's mind. He claims to not watch F-1 and decided to try it. He told me the spins are flatter and the KE is improved.
Electrics/Glow... The YS-170's are strong as are most of the electrics. Some don't look like a proper set-up and down on power.
Rain is down to a drizzle now and Brian needs his puter back, so we're gonna go sit (sleep) on our flight-line.

Good Job JAS,
Keep on Christophe...You guys will get close the gap. After seeing you guys fly the F-05 pattern and make it look really good I'm confident.
The F-05 has eaten my lunch two years in a row! I know how tough it is and you guys were on top of it last year and Chip was this year at the NATS too.
GO USA!!!

Just quick update from the field. The morning was so rainy that only a 2/3rd of the first set is flown by now. They have now decided to postpone the morning session and start the afternoon set at 2:00pm. Rest of the morning's flights are going to be flown tomorrow.

Eh, Jason, you know we use 220V in Europe?
Good luck in the championship.

RE: 2005 F3A World Championships
What do people think about sending the team member who just missed out on the team for there country as a judge. I think the profile of this person would be brilliant. Able to judge the flights due to being able to fly it, maybe a little jilted because he missed out on the team so he will not miss any errors not even from his own country men. I think it would be great we would have record low scores across the bored i reckon. A chance to be judged by your peers not by poor old guys who quote "i know what it looks like but I cant fly it". Please note I do commend these old guys taking time to go to these events.
