Yep, pretty much the same thing, just a fancier name now a days. I went and cut a scrap piece of the vinyl, stuck it were some blue goes later and rubbed it down real well. Then waited about an hour and rubbed it again just for the heck of it. Then, about another hour later I warmed it up pretty good and could not believe how easily it just came right off. This is great because with it having that kind of holding power I can leave it on throughout the process and pull it off after all the colors are done. I have a lot of excess I can even use for some of the taping in between colors. Oh how I am a happy camper and can't wait until tomorrow.

I am glad it is going so well for you. I have nightmares over how many times it did not for me; in the days before the internet, and local help was nil because I was the one doing the "new" thing.

LOL! Been there done that trying not to do it any more than necessary. Hey Les, did you know the heat worked that well? If so, man, you gotta get stronger on your opinions!!!

I also suppose, with this new found knowledge, I should not place models with freshly applied vinyl in direct sun light.

So Glad you back on track.

So frustrating when unknowingly 1 ingredient is missed, and all is ////.
Then whala, the one ingredient is found and all is right with the world .

Yeperooo !!!

It seems that's pretty much the way of scale isn't it. Figuring out what and how to get to the desired effect can sometimes be frustrating. But in the end most of us manage to muddle through. Of course we might get there a bit sooner if we (I) stopped and listened to those (like you) that suggest a cure.

I hate to be the philosopher, but sometimes it's the journey, not the end result.

Thank you Robert for the start of the tutorial, please continue with more pics as you progress. This process is totally new to me and I find it very interesting and informative. Where do you find these supplies (mask)? Again, great job my friend...

" If so, man, you gotta get stronger on your opinions!!!"

If any one makes an "absolute" statement, someone will crawl out of a closet, and prove it wrong, just to do so. I will be absolute when I am dead positive, and can document it, without any contradiction, and at my age, with my memory, that is not often. Till then I will waffle::-))))))))))

I have been working so hard I am sweating, lol.. The bottom wing halves are masked and ready for the first color of paint, which will be red. In the pics the brighter white is where they get paint. Now to mask the top wings.

Kind of funny, I had to use light heat to get my venal trim tape to stick. You had to use it to get it to un-stick.getting exciting over here in the world of Pitts!

I got into a good rhythm with the bottom wings and cruised right through the top of the top wing. I had placed the vinyl on the bottom right, yep I was cruising by now, and "whamo!" the brain fart hit me. I placed it in the wrong spot, these templates have a perimeter piece as well but I prefer cutting it of so I can see my alignment marks. On this piece I did not cut it off, so much for a good rhythm. No problem I have it masked with tape, being the bottom everything is nice and strait, but need some more to finish it. So after this post I will be going out and get some. I am real happy with how this vinyl is working and definitely will use it in this manner again, providing it comes of as clean as the test piece. I will get the masking done today but it will probably wait until morning to spray. Mostly because we are getting evening showers and I have to close up the vent window.

I promise, you will see some color tomorrow!!!

I have returned and finished that side. I have the other side cut and ready but needed a break. While on the PC Gary from Decal-it, most know him by Pink-it, sent me an email with the sponsor logo decals refurbished. They look brand new and hopefully will be a nice addition to the airframe when we have finished and I order them.

I know it's not easy. That's why I'm already impressed. Can't wait to see the next step.

Robert, I will be away a few days. So as you mask, paint, and unveil the magnificence (otherwise known as Hot Rod) and the stunningness, begins to emerge. I will be silent.
So when the time comes, refer back to ----------------------------------------------------^ and --------------------------------------------------------------^ . And it will be as if I never left.

A perfect example of my lack of humor, for I have no clue as to the meaning. But I do know in todays technological society one can never truly leave, or be silent!!

The little upside down v's are pointing to words above them. Those are my near future comments.
I don't think you can do vertical arrows any other way.

Someone once said, if u have to explain your humor , oh shucks.

I got to it early today, everything has been repressed down and looked good. So I gave the vinyl a sealing coat of white. As well as the vinyl sticks normally this would not have been necessary but there are numerous cut lines for separating all the stripes, stars, and squares. A sealing coat was easier than taping all the lines, better safe than sorry as well. Now normally I would proceed with the next coat, the color coat, but not absolute as to how well the vinyl would hold up to being constantly wet with an MEK based product I will let it dry a bit. Yes, I did a test of the vinyl with the MEK paint a few days ago and it held up fine with two coats. But I will not risk turning it to bubble wrap over 30-45 minutes. I will be back in a bit with some red colors to post.
