Congrats on your new acquisition and I enjoyed the phone conversation last night.
Turtle Report:
The rudder is covered and I have started the process of rib stitching. Basically it is similar to full scale rib stitching........a strip of reinforcing material the same width of the rib is ironed over each rib..........the stitch spacing is determined (1 3/8" in this case) and lightly marked onto the covering........I poke holes with the needle in the covering where each stitch will go (this makes it neater for me and reduces the chance of ripping the fabric)...........where there is structure in the way of the needle I drill a hole for the needle to pass through........after all the stiches are in place a strip of covering about twice the width of the rib is ironed in place (this seals and weatherproofs the holes made by the needle).

Hopefully here is a link to the thread on my 1/3 N-11 showing a rib stitching tutorial ........this thread was started by Sharky and he allowed me to join in.

posts 492 thru 497 cover the rib stitching tutorial.

The rudder is stitched and the rib tapes have been ironed on.
Ready for the perimeter tape to be added. FYI, this tape is nearly 6 feet long.........this plane night need a lot more covering than I thought.
In case you're interested, Solar Tex rips lengthwise quite well. No cutting with a knife or scissors required. But across the roll, not so well. Just make a small cut at the required width and then rip away.

I am rib stitching not for the scale detail that it provides, although that is a great benefit, but because as our planes grow in size there is a point we reach where rib stitching is required to keep the covering from lifting away from the airframe. I don't know where that point actually is and I don't intend on finding out. I have used it on a couple of third scale planes and it also helps to keep the covering tight and reduces wrinkling.

The half scale N-11 is a big model and along with it comes a big price tag. That's why I have accumulated bits and pieces over the past couple of years - spreading the cost over time somewhat softens the sticker shock.
TURTLE REPORT:
I have fit the servo rails and mounted the servos to them. It is very similar to my 1/3 scale N-11, so there wasn't a lot of engineering to accomplish this task. I did find that the cable guide for one of the upper elevator cables needed to be moved. I relocated both of them when I test fit the left side. I assumed that the right side would be the same - guess I was wrong........shoot, it may still be wrong. I won't know until I get the ny-rod inserted into the fuselage side cable guides and rig the final cables.........

I didn't like how the cable guides were lining up, so I cut them out and will replace with new balsa blocks. You know what they say, don't cha?

I believe these to be way more than what is actually needed to fly safely. But they do come close to what is mandated by the AMA's Large Model 1 & 2 regulations.

I think I might be back to my old routine now, so I might just get in a little shop time in the near future.
