Hi Art,
Where did you get your pilot? I have been looking for one of those for a while. I have one in my 1/3 Waco and need another for my 1/3 Cub.
BTW: The plane looks great!!

Outstanding jo Art, congrats. I wish I was able to make the Ohio and or the Hoosier Dawn Patrols this year, I always enjoy flying with you guys but I have other obligations. I probably have 18 flights on the #2 Alby this year. Flies like a dream. I can not wait until this plane is available, I will definetly build one. Again, congrats !!

Anthony, I don't have a clue.......a swap meet several years ago, I think.......I was lucky to have found it.

Thanks for the compliment.......it still needs lots of attention to the metal work, dummy engine, more paint & markings and on and on it goes!

I'm back to work on the Fokker Eindecker!

I have the wing panels painted on the bottom - need to wait for the paint to set up a bit before moving on to the top of the wings.

Bottom is dry - turned them over and got 2 coats on the top side of each panel.

FLIGHT REPORT UPDATE:

Over this past weekend at the Ohio Dawn Patrol I got a chance to really "ring this bird out!" I flew my N-11 maybe 4 or 5 times, but the rest of the time I had the Eindecker up in the air. I must have run a couple of gallons of gas thru the Zenoah twin and got a lot of air time on the EIII.

I flew in several formation type flights - flying the circuit in a group of 3 or 4. The plane is predictable and stable and is fairly easy to fly this way - once trimmed out, it stays where you put it.

I also flew it in a couple of dog fights - it turns out it is much more maneuverable than I thought it might be. In fact, it more than holds it own when tossed around the sky with the other planes. That being said, when it is up against a better (more advanced) design, say for instance a 1/3 scale Sopwith Pup........I found myself on the short end of the stick - but it took a good pilot on the other bird to put me there.

On the last evening of the event, I found myself putzing around the patch with another good pilot and his 1/3 scale Siemans Schuchert. We were staying together pretty well, when I asked "Hey, do you want to land together?" "Are you serious?" was the reply.......I countered with a tentative "sure"......."Are you kidding?"......"Not kidding - let's do it!"

It worked out well and we took off and landed a couple of more times together.

What a great way to end the Ohio Dawn Patrol!

I think I am liking this plane much more than I thought I would!:D

A Version 2.0 update

Working on the pull/pull cables and tail skid support.
The supports are 4-40 rods with Dubro ends and layers of brass tubes to get thickness.

I took the EIII on another outing this past weekend. I went to Derby Days Model Airshow, an R/C airshow put on by the Indianapolis Eastside Club. This show coincides with the Soap Box Derby held in Morristown, IN on the same weekend. It was well attended by the public.

I flew the Eindecker in the WWI gaggle with 5 or 6 other WWI planes. I also flew a dog fight demo with a 35% N-17.......it was a little rough with a wicked rolling cross wind.

I also flew the Eindecker through the speed trap.......25 mph on the slow pass into the wind and 78 mph with a diving down wind pass. If the wind were a bit more steady and not so rough, I could have got the speed down a bit more - but 25 mph is pretty slow for this big bird. In retrospect I should have flown through the trap on a normal cruising speed pass - I would guess it would have been 40 or so.......

Remember that I was having trouble with the landing gear.......no temper in the axels.......well that problem has been fixed. I visited my good friend Paul - you all know him, aka Horsepoweraviation - and he cut off the soft axel so we could weld on a good piece of music wire for the axels.

Larry was going to send me a new set of landing gear, but that would require that I make all new flying wires.......that seemed like a waste of resources and time, for both of us. So this was a good compromise - plus it gets the big Eindecker flight ready again - just in time for the Hoosier Dawn Patrol, too!

It may not be the prettiest fix, but it does look much better from the front than it does in these pictures.

I have been working on some fun scale stuff for the Eindecker EIII.
Rib stitching.

Using some old radio tuner cord that I have had laying around.
Coated with thin CA and cut into 1/4" lengths.
Glued to wing and covered with 1/2 wide strips of Solartex to match covering.

I broke the big Eindecker at the Hoosier Dawn Patrol........a very high speed one wheel touch and go that hit a high spot on the runway and ramped it up in the air and then back down again on just one wheel.......ocuh!.......broke the axel off, flipped upside down, broke the rudder off, broke the fin, stripped an aileron servo gear, bent the cowl and busted the firewall extensions that the cowl mounts to.........WHEW!

Not to worry - got it repaired and just in time for the Mid Atlantic Dawn Patrol in Virginia Beach.

Also added some metal panels to the forward fuselage sides as well as the hatch.......a quick addition of parts......it will look ok up in the air but don't look too closely while its on the ground.

Will add some pictures when I get a chance.

Oh, I almost forgot - the King post broke off and I replaced that, too.
