RE: IS-2 Buld thread
Another small step forward. i received the adapter rings i ordered from Daryl Turner. These rings reduce the overall diameter of the KV-1 sprocket to the IS-2 sized sprocket. It seemed like a small detail but i wanted to strive for a close resemblance. I have turned the KV-1 sprockets to accept the adapter rings (see photos) one photo shows the new ring in front of a stock KV-1 sprocket so yo can see the small difference in overall diameter. I have made a new hub cap assembly which i will add later. The rings will be J-B welded to the turned hub and should have more the sufficient strength t keep up with rough treatment. In a previous post i showed my version of a reconfigured HL recoil similar to what either yellowshaker or bubbajoex made some time ago. I have mounted the turret drive so this puts me closer to finishing the turret. i hope to actually get this tank finished this month but life keeps throwing small obstacles at me.

I'm back. kclank, other that what you have stated and I I dont know of any other differences. As I had said before as far as the coupula was concerned i have seen 2 different versions and it is getting hard to determine on which vehicle i saw which cupola. So i will need to look into that a little more.
The project looks great, very fine job you are doing.
Now, on the KV-85 I have seen at least 2 different frontal plate configurations. One is definitely the normal KV-1S frontal plate, then i have seen one that is of a different config when labeled the KV-85. Now i don't know if all KV-85's had this modification to the frontal armor plate or not. Some may have kept the same as the original KV-1s. The Russians had many variations in the same tank from one factory to another so these may all well just be manufacturer details.

Well it only took a year but here it is ready for field trials. not my best work but it should be a good fighter. I ended up using Tamiya instead of El-Mod electronics

I think the thought of getting the AsiaTam hull is what's holding me up. Then I'd be forced to get the tracks to match.
MORE MONEY!!!!

This is a really great job.
But you are wrong, arguing that this work is better than the original. Two small remarks
1. JS -2 did not have a periscope sight like the KV-1 or KV-85 on the turret. This tank has5externallyidentical periscopereview-sighting device.
2. Turret JS -2 has no small hatch eject spent cartridges. This hatch was on the turret KV -85

Hey Blackcat, I guess i can use the same story you did, when presenting your IS-2, about not trying to be 100% correct. lol All things are correctable.

Yes, of course, you're absolutely right. Your work - gorgeous. And I would not say a word, if not the words of Sevoblast there.
Although I think - to do the extra detail - if the model is good without it. It's fun for this amateur to do with their hands .
You did a great tank - congratulations.
I think - and not the start we have to do Joseph - Third

To me, the best thing about your build is the hinged engine compartment hatches at the rear. That is something most guys wouldn't bother to do. Nice touch!

I'm so thrilled you took on this project and took the time to share it with us. I've been corresponding with Frank in Germany and had been contemplating taking the plunge on the IS2 kit and reading this thread this morning was really informative. Now that it's all done and the model finished, what are your final impressions of the kit? It's clearly expensive but do you think it good value, overall? What would you say was the worst aspect of the kit, and the best?
Again, thanks for this. It made my day to stumble on this thread!

Any chance you have a kv1?....I would love to see some pics of a kv 1 next to the is2 . Someone told me the kv1 was wider than the is2...

impressions.
1. kit made very well, understanding it is a craftsman type kit.
2. lot's of reference material and patience needed to make it look right.
3. expensive but someone has to pay for the kit engineering and Frank did a good job with that.
4. i would build it again.

Awesome IS-2, I love the hinged motor hatches as well.Anyplans on getting the IS-2wheels from Frank? I didn't have them originally, butordered them later, installed them and they really complete the kit. If you're ever on the east coast maybe we can get ours together at Danville and start a heavy brigade.

beautiful build..the sprocket adapters seem like overkill though..I mean really..... who's gonna notice them being just a tad bigger?? Think your worrying too much..none the less a fantastic job!
