SNFF 0406
Sunday Night Foto Fun(SNFF) is here again. IF there is something you have been working on but haven't posted yet,(or maybe you have) here is a chance to blast off a quick picture and show us. Do your part to keep the troops motivated.
I hope I don't stand to anyones toes (YHR?) to put this message a day earlier and by myself. But I cant wait until tomorrow and with my short memory, I would probably forget to post my achievement again.
So, here is my first almost ready PZ III. I have made story for it too:
Model Panzer III L
Year January 1943
Delivered to Eastern Front - Stalingrad
Unit Abteilung 103 (white 120)
Commander of unit Josef Zintl (black 100) - survivor of the Stalingrad campaign
Combat history:
- get blasted three of left side wheels at drive to front line.
- disappeared at first battle - destiny unknown.
Yours,
RR

Here You are: Pictures in snow
It take some time, but i managed to find ONE little pile of snow. Or more like ice, as You can see from pictures.

Thanks for compliments. As I wrote, this is my first attempt to paint and customise a tank. And yes - winterkettens is what they are called. But You should put more power to that letter r, when pronouncing it - then it sounds more German *joke*
I will let You know how they acted in sand and mud as soon as get change to "brake it in". Maybe tomorrow - at least I hope...

Hey nothing wrong with Saturday Night Foto Fun
I got my Panzer IV , and after making sure everyhing worked. I gutted the wiring and rewired it. Took out the smoker and added an I pod speaker.
I moved the on off switch to the back and hid under that thingamajigi on the back, You slide it left or right to turn on the tank. I opened up a front hatch and mounted the charging jack under it.
Added a 7.5 cm cannon, ran the IR wiring and installed a IR emitter in the mantlet. Can't see it because it has been masked off and painted over
I then painted it metalic, which will then get a coat of primer followed by Panzer Gray.
More to follow

I was only trying to emulate the look of paint, that has painted with brooms in hurry.
The idea was that paintjob was done same time as others were changing those three wheels. That why jack, woodblocks and crowbar was not painted. As was not the first wheel either.
YHR
I like that rough surface look and colour of it.
It is almost pity to cover it. Didn't they ever put tank into battle even without primer? It would be quite challenging rust-operation - I think
About that 7,5cm cannon, is it possible to have measures of it? As I would like to convert mine to J-version.
Oh, and that on/off switch -idea is brilliant.
Yours,
RR

commonly referred to as Ostketten = East tracks.
commonly referred to as Ostketten = East tracks.
In fact, they are not same thing.
- Germans first generated new modification of normal tracks for muddyconditions -> ostketten (=modifyed normal track with extra piece added at the outher part of track)
- As that was not good enought for mud and especially for snow, they made whole new track -> winterketten (even wider outset, but the whole track was one piece factoryproduct)
Winterketten's where prone to break in harder surfaces and pulled more offen track off from wheels.
Yours,
RR
PS: Both where extensively used in east fronts.

IT has been primed, painted and weathered. The bare, "steel" never saw the light of day!!!!!.
The rough texture works fine for cast parts, but is actually too rough for machined steel. I take wet 400 grit sandpaper and knock down the texture before applying the primer. I just bought a spray can of something called, "Hammered steel" that might be better for an unpainted tank. My Bulldog has never been modified, and I might experiment with this hammered steel finish on it.
Here is a page with some interestng stuff on Panzers

I mean, I have collected too many pictures and too many pieces of data to keep it any more in any kind of order.
But that link told almost all I need to know. They changed the gun three times F1-F2, early G->late G (75mm KwK 40 L/48)
Have I understand correct, that those numbers tells round's lenght / gun tube lenght ?
If so, how much longer that tube of late G (48) should be versus F1 (24). I know it is caliber, but how much is caliber.. am I stubid or what?
I answer to myself: Yes I am - I used UtFG -method to answer to myself (UtFG = Use the F*c*ing Google):
"Sometimes indicated using the prefix L/, so for example, the most common gun for the Panzer V tank is described as a "75 mm L/70", meaning a barrel 75 mm in diameter, and (75mm * 70=) 5250 mm long."
So: 3600mm - 1800 = 1800mm
I think I need some sleep,
RR

YHR,
Where did you get the metallic paint? Is that some sort of Rustoleum?

I posed the tank and shot some more pictures. I found something at home depot that works like Dullcoat. It is from Rustoleum and it is called window frosting. You are supposed to use on bathroom windows to give you privacy. Works great as a dull barrier.

Very nice YHR. What barrel is that, or is it home made???
I have yet to get in the pzIV's, but when we do it will be way down on the list of things to do. I still can't wait to get mine!
YHR, you must have a bunch of time on your hands to get your projects done that quick?

RE: SNFF 0406
An understanding wife, and the fact that we are between season's means, I have some time to work on a tank.
Yes the bbl is fashioned out of brass. The airsoft on this tank is the best yet. I don't know if they have done something, but this thing really shoots hard.
971wright asked about secondary armor. I have no plans for this.
