It happened fast and not sure how, but I saw one of my retracts flying off the plane. Looking at it I saw the trunion broke. No bent pins though and nothing else broke, even the prop is fine. Not sure what to make of it.

Of all the problems the FW gear can have, this is a new one. This was poor metal. I am sure Robart will back you up on this.

I emailed Robart yesterday and sent the picture and proof of purchase along with it. Hopefully they send me a new one right away.

Other than wanting the old one back, I think they are compelled to honor your request. If they don't, doing business with them should be avoided.

I don't have a problem sending the old one back. I just hope i don't have to do that before they send a new one.

Did you end up reworking the wing saddle to accommodate the increased dihedral? Do you have a pic of how it turned out?

cflorcke; I made no further progress with the FW-190 assembly. I put it aside to finish my TF P-51 that is now completed. I am almost finished assembling my ESM 50cc Spitfire, all that remains to do is throttle servo installation, manual choke installation and air bottle installation for the air operated landing gear. I should be able to continue assembly of the FW by mid July. I will post photos as I progress with the FW wing fuselage marriage.

Jumping back to the thread from some time ago, it so happened that the following video taken by a friend back in 2015 (but only recently surfaced) came under my attention...

Thanks to Spiros for the wonderful job in presenting the model in such a nice way. Sorry for the short flight sequences, the day was too hot and the motor was struggling - I decided to take her down after a couple of circuits and not risk an overheat.

The taxying shots are worth it, though (switching on the subwoofer in the PC helps).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqSHQz8crRc The model was presented here about a year ago (see posts 3832-42 on Page 154).

I saw the retracts have a one year warranty, so yes, I will contact Robart. Of course this will take longer than just ordering a new part I'm sure.
If everything else is good and it still works smoothly I would just email the pic to Eric at Robart and tell him what happened as well as calling him They may just send you the part
i dint think that should have cracked like that so it may have been a bad piece of metal that let go Anyway it may save you some time by doing it that way...hope it helps

All that's broken is what you see in the picture, everything else is fine and works as it should. I did send an email to [email protected] and have not heard back yet. If I don't hear by tomorrow I'll call them.

Ok... I'm slowly trying to get back into RC (long strory)...and IIRC, I bought a set of Robart electrics for my TF FW190.

I recall reading that there's some sort of 'mod' one needs to do in order to beef-up the wing mains.

Can anyone put it into simple (BJ) terms what I need to order and how to apply the mod?

Many thanks in advance...

BJ

Read the thread it is spelled out. It's the same fix for the TF P51 you can also check those threads. It is a easy fix, however to explain to you now would difficult in a short version.

Go to post #1849 on page 74 of this thread. I lay it all out for you there.
This was performed several years ago now before anyone I know of had done it on any of the other Robart electric gear.

Is Robart customer service always this unpleasant? I sent my email on Saturday. Haven't heard a thing so I called yesterday. I talked to someone in tech support and told him I wanted to follow up on the email I sent. He pretty much blew me off saying it was a holiday weekend so they're behind and not to worry, someone will get back to me. He didn't want to know what it was about or anything. 3 days now and still nothing. Sorry, but if one holiday puts you behind so far that in this day and age you can't respond to an email within 3 days than maybe you should hire more people. Or maybe you should make your parts available through other vendors.

Ambient temps were about 32C with high humidity. Engine temps began climbing from 150C to over 180C.
I think that the slender-bladed APC 22x10 was probably not grabbing the thin air too well, cause otherwise the engine would rev normally.

Engine had more than 5lt through it.

You are best to call them. They were closed thru the 5th. I a purchased thousands of dollars of product from them and they always back it up. If want difficulty try getting product from CJM or Sierra, the threads are full of issues with them.

In fact only the plane was mine - not the video, so I could not add the technical details - such as:
- Saito FG-60 with Keleo ring
- Savox SC-0252s
- Jeti DS-16 Guidance w/Telemetry

Here's a drone shot of the airfield.. I may add some pics to the Flying site thread, as you suggest - thanks!

I thought about calling them again today, but was afraid I'd get the same treatment as yesterday. I wrote them another message, this time through the website. If I don't hear from them by tomorrow morning I will call again.

OK, Robart has redeemed themselves. Got an email from Justin and he said he'll send me a new trunnion. He also showed my pic to everyone there and they have not seen this before.

" Not seen this before" HA! I show them the same parts with the same problem with my fix ( same as the one outline here in this thread) at Warbirds of the Midwest in Aug 2014. Is told that " that something needs to fail to prevent more damage" I spoke with Justin at Toledo in March, again on the same issue. He acknowledged the issue and told me they were now using strong metal. He was aware of the fix many have used with the cam blocks, His comment was " want ever works".

You're talking about the bent pins, which is a different problem.
