Default Scale fw 190 wheels

I'm trying to dress up a pair of Williams Bros Wheels to be more Scale in appearance. Did the real FW 190 Wheels have bolts like the ones pictured here, going around the outer edge or rim of the Wheels on both sides, Inner and outer sides?

I guess the bolts were either Tire Bead Lockers or held the wheel halves together?

What I'm planning to do, is screw in #2 Button Head screws around the wheel to simulate the bolts, just don't know if I need to do both sides of each wheel.

Thanks.

They had the bolts on the outer facing side of the wheel. Jerry Crandall reference book volume two, page 206 has a good picture of the FW190 wheel.

OK thanks, so the bolts were on the same side as the Air Valve and both were on the outer facing side, nothing on the inner side.

Look at post 626. Its a Fw 190 wheel.

A lot of pictures only shows one side of the Wheel/Tires

Okay, the other side. Not many is interested in that side, since it is so hidden by gear doors.

You see bolt ends and nuts here.

Now I'm confused, Ram you posted this picture on the TF FW190 thread, it looks like the bolts were on both sides and most deffinately on the inner side; I guess it won't be all that bad if I put the screws on both sides, afterall, the TF FW190 is Semi Scale/Sports Scale.

Excellant, much appreciated, I guess I shouldn't be so anal to detail!

Dasintex,
what William Brother wheels are you dressing up. I have a set but they don't look like the ones in your pic. Mine have no tread or valve stem area.

Thanks

That picture is not my Williams Bros Wheels, I posted that picture to show people the bolts I was talking about that I wanted to duplicate on my Wheels.

Default Modified Williams Bros Wheels

Not exactly totally to scale, but here are my Williams Bros Wheels Modified to look similar to FW 190 Wheels, I used #2 X3/16" Button Head Screws to simulate bolts, although I used a few too many compared to scale, painted them with Model Master Spray Paint 'Panzer Grey' #FS 36076.

I'm familar with Allied Planes; that for the most part, the inside wheel wells, inner side of gear doors, cockpits, etc; were painted with Green/Yellow Chromate paint to cover the bare Aluminum or was left natural Aluminum on a lot of Planes; what about Luftwaffe Planes specifically the FW190, how were the same areas that I listed treated or painted by the Germans?

Thanks.

Without going into a long amont of detail...

it depends on the time frame and the particular airframe type as to what they used.

Early, mid and some later war aircraft had painted interiors ( the specific color depending on aircraft type and year of the one your modeling), while later models had no interior paint.

Then if they had wooden surfaces on the inside or metal, changes things as well.

If you do a google for WW2 luftwaffe paint, lots of information pops up, you just have to sift through it.

Dasintex,
What Thomas said, but in general terms for the FW RLM 02 (a greyish green color) was used except for the cockpit a darker grey called RLM 66. This is just in basic terms. You have to research to find out the specifics of your plane you would like to model.

For anyone wondering what the Sierra's look like painted here you go. The opposite side doesn't have any detail other than a smooth Aluminum face. Not nearly the investment as Glennis or Sist but hefty enough in price for those wondering.

That is just crazy big! Looks great. What a daunting project. Will be so gratifying when complete though. Hopefully nobody at your flying field asks you where you got the ARF! lol

Great looking project Craig!

What are the details?
Did you have to sell the Corsair to fund the project?

For the most part, RC universe has become a waste of time. Hardly anything going on in here anymore.

And that's why we have this forum.. For those that want to post their Axis accomplishments or projects. If we let it die..it will.
