Just wanted to update on the cooling issues. I added a spoiler just in front of the rear cooling exit that is in front of the firewall. I flew today in 95° Georgia heat just wanted to update on the cooling issues. I added a spoiler just in front of the rear cooling exit that is in front of the firewall. I flew today and 95° and temps never spiked over 205° in-flight. It was running 30-40° cooler than it ever has even when it was cooler outside. Win-win. I may even try the rec90 unleaded again after this tank.

nsyracuse....

I'm glad the spoiler seemed to help you out. It's a simple concept but some people either don't get it, reject it out-of-hand and keep trying bigger and bigger holes in their cowling, or believe in the great pumpkin!
Can you detail how you have your temp sensor installed? Maybe a pic?

Thanks,

Does anyone have a (firewall --- to--- backplate) measurement, so I could know what engines I could place in this plane????
The manual doesn't say anything about it.... only "use the engine that DOESN"T exist" LOL>....

A couple of weeks back I discussed the mods with pics of the changes to my cowl to allow more air to flow thru and cool the engine. Well I finally got out today and took a few flights. I am happy to report that the extra cooling due to the changes worked great. I am very thankful for all the helpful tips on this thread in getting the airflow/cooling worked out! Here are some pics from the field today.

I am seeking a GS warbird with 2/3 piece wing such as this mustang and would like to have 4 stroke gas. I was looking into different engine options and bumped into torqpro 70. Do you think this will fit into the cowl without major surgery? Dimensions are here.

Awesome, thank you very much for that. I think 36mm is not too bad. I am much more concerned whether carburetor will clear lower firewall.

Looks like it but you'll at least need shorter standoffs.

Hi,

How much ballast did people add? Where did you put it?

right on top of the motor box under the muffler. I used a DLE 61. Get the aeroworks muffler to clear the side of the cowl. Or you will need someone to trim the muffler at the exhaust port and weld it up. My took 15 oz of lead to put it in the middle of the CG range.

Dear Kevin,Kalzone,

Hi guys, I have been reading your posts on the conversion to electric on this kit. I'm in the UK and would like to convert the model to electric but would really appreciate your help on how you positioned the batteries to get the C of G correct. I noted in your video you removed the cowl, hopefully to be able to swap out the batteries. I would be very grateful if you could take a picture or describe your battery arrangement so I could be confident that I get this correct. thanks for your help and to the thread for a lot of good Gen...

Steve.

Had mine out this weekend for our National Model Aviation Day event, it ended up on the local news, the reporter guy loved it.

I was flying at the time, I'll check FB and see if anyone posted anything. We had a big crowd, it actually made me nervous.

I had to fix my top nose sheeting so I took the opportunity to change markings. I used Callie Graphics.

Yea, all due respect for the reason they are that way, I had Callie Graphics make the correct kill flags for mine as well.

hi steve

i am using eflite 5000mah 30c 6s lipos. i was only able to fit the eflite and poteza batteries.the potenza are from flex innovations the thunder powers are to long by 5mm. what i did for the motor standoff was i drilled the firewall using the da50/60 pattern then i bought 4 bolts that were way long and put them through the motor mount and threaded them in until the spinner was about 1/8" to 3/16" off the front of the cowling. on the cowling i built a frame the held the cowling to the correct shape i used 4 canopy latches from seacraft. in the battery bay i put a wall that is just at the back of the batteries and at the front i built the door to hold them from moving forward. the door moves up and a magnet holds it up. the door has a spring latch on the bottom. i didnt have to use lead because i used the rx batteries and the landing gear batteries the get c/g right.

let me know if i can help anymore
