Guys on your building boards the key is FLAT, unless you anchor it to the floor it wont stay level anyway. Be sure to make it high enough for you when standingao sitting on a stool

While you are building think about using the floor space under your board except for randon boxes and stuff.
I made mine into a big box on wheels coupla of shelves doors and I have a great paint and F/glass storage plus smoe outher stuff.

If you want the ultimate flat table. This is where I learned to build my torsion box. I constructed it a few years ago and it's still flat as can be.

Nice Video. The only thing I would change is. Leave at least a inch of overhang all the way around for clamping.

OK guys, I know you all think that I've abandoned my Corsair repair project. I have not. It's just going super slow. Our Fly-in season will be over in a couple more weekends and I will get back on it.

Jim

If I knew I was going to stay in one spot that board is the great, But I still think the key in todays world is what ever you build is FLAT, all you realy need just mho.

Guys post pic of what ever you do as I always learn something for the next time.

pilotx,
Not sure you'll find too many rivits on the Corsair because it utilized a new spot welding process on its aluminum skin, giving the aircraft very low drag. The plane was mostly held together by spot welding, dutz fasteners (sp?), metal screws, and fabric.

Tracey

I might add that the rivets were the at the panal lines a double row, onthe fuse horz and virticlastabs. But on restored birds the spots are eather flat head rivets, done with special counter sinking tool or dimpled as the big machines to do the spot welding where vary expencive to run and maintane, the wings were all rivets form what my book tell me

Hope this helps

Cheers Bob T

PS you can check for more detail over in the RC SCALE forum with Chad in the !/6 corsair build also lots of outher good stuff to learn there

I have indeed. Seem to be getting less and less time to fly, and it's a shame this thing is sitting around when it should be flying. My wife is more motivated to find it a new home than I am.

Sorry to see you having to sell it. If you lived a thousand miles closer I'd probbaly buy it. But you have to do what you have to do what you have to do. May I ask what lighting system you used on it and how it was installed?

Don't have to sell it....just seems like a practical thing to do given how much time I am spending doing other things and going places during flying season. The lights I installed in the cockpit only...kind of pointless since they really only show up well in the dark...but it does look cool when they are on. It's just a simple setup on a battery with a switch and a few LED's for the map lights and such using resistors. Shipping would be a pain, and expensive, so it's why I shy away from it...but thanks.

Well I got the wing sheeted and was wondering how much of the top center section I can safely remove to set-up the the gear, wiring and what ever else I need to do with out compromizing the structual integrity of the wing? I am going to add a little balsa to the wing leading edge to make it easier to round off. I will also see if I can make a built up tip for the wings to make them more scale like. I"m not going to get too carried away on this model but I will go for more scale on the next one.

Randy

I cut mine out rib to rib and from aft face of spar back 2 1/2, I don't think you will have any problems as long as the sheeting is good and tight to the ribb's etc.

Randy,
your on the right track to build up the tip for a more scale look, thats exactly what I did built it up to the height of the last rib then shaped and sanded but I didn't go to a point I located the center then went up & down aprox. 1/8" to form a band around this way here it does not leave you subjected to dings as much so to speak.
just my $.02 cents worth

Bob, somebody here on this thread did a folding wing build, was it Devens?????

For the OP; it was a pretty complicated modification and I would not suggest you attempt it unless you're really skilled.
