Yea, I've read nothing but good things about Warbird Colors paint. I'll use that stuff. Here's a few more questions if you have a moment.
1. Which colors did you use? 601 Insignia White, 605 Insignia Blue, and 609 Azure Blue? If not these which colors on the warbird web site?
2. Quantity of each 1/4 pint, 1/2 pint full pint ?
3. Also where did you get your decals from?
Thanks for the response and your time.

WarbirdColors. Very easy paint to work with. It's water based also.

Hey Twist, I told Chuck what I was painting and he recommened the colors and the amount. Perfect on both accounts. I don't remember the size.
As for the decals I got them locally from a friend. not exactly what I wanted, but will do.

exterior latex house paint and automotive finish are two other options.
I am using the latex house paint. They can computer match colors and it goes on easy. I don't like the numerous coats needed when using WBC. sometimes more than 20 coats...to much for me. I have also seen Corsairs turn out almost purple with WBC.
imo

A dumb question for you guys. I'm having a problem doing my wing tips. I know that the top is suppose to be about level with the upper skin but the bottom I think ihas too much of an angle to look rite. Are you guys adding some wood between the wing tip and the outer wing rib to get a decent looking taper. Mine looks too thick out at the end of the wing and yet if I were to sand more the angle of the lower wing tip will look too steap or sharp angle.

Not a dumm question, what I did for my bird was to Start the taper at rib T-5 move the lower spar up till I got the right angle and then sanded the ribs 6 & 7 to match. There are some sketches way back in the thread.
Hope this helps

Well unless I take the sheeting of the lower bottome end of the wing tip guess I'll just have to maybe cut the wing tip off and maybe shim a little and make her a little wider for the wingspan?

I added 1 " to each wing tip between the last rib and the wing tip block. I used 2 laminated pieces of 1/2" balsa to biuld to 1". I also trimed the ribs past the break to add more tapper. I think the last rib ended up nearly half as tall as stock. My corsair now has a 88.5" wingspan instead of 86.5"

How many coats of the dark corsair blue did you need with WBC tbolt47?

I don't beleive it was over four.
After the first thin coat, I found that I could really lay it on with the right spray/volume mixture.

Behr flat latex exterior house paint. Never again. Too many coats to cover. The Color is much darker than in the photos. I won't paint the cowl untill I get my G62.

Hi Phill
From the pic's your bird looks great[sm=thumbs_up.gif]
by chance did you keep track of the weight build up?? I used a latex primer on my 47 to get the surfice I was looking for and found a vary small amount (like just under 8oz for the hole bird)

Hey George sorry I missed your question.
It started out as a sliding canopy. I had it working. Then decided to just put the solid conopy on it. Yea I'm lazy at times. Didn't feel like fiddling with it.

Just a question, did you balance per the book or did you move foward a bit ?? My first one was a bit snappy just befor tuch down when balanced per the book, the current one fly's like it is on a rail and no bad habbits, but only 12 flights.

I can only tell you what I have experienced and have seen, like I said my first T/F G/S corsair I balanced same as you at 5 3/4 and I we nearly lost it twice just befor tuch down, it wanted to snap tp the left, so on my curent bird I moved the C/G fwd to 5 !/4 and it flys right down the line on landings, and I will add the flaps are vary effective at full down
Hope this helps
One outher thing I might add the tail will come up quit fast so be ready with a tad of up but not enough to let it lift off till you have plenty of speed my take off rools are about 100 to 150 feet

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Does anybody know Vic Granger (Redr00ster here on RCU) or Robin Montgomery (Rmonty1 here on RCU)? I made Vic two Corsair tailwheels with hooks, and Robin one tailwheel with hook, and although we had good communication up until about two months ago, I have not heard from them (or been paid by them). I know that in these economic times some people fall on hard times while others have to re-locate or cut bills (like internet). My experience has been that the vast majority of Rc'ers are honest good folks, so I hate to assume anything.
At any rate, anybody out there know either of these guys and how to get in touch wth them? I've PM'd and sent them each a letter.
Thanks in advance,
Sam
