RE: New 81
We have a paved runway with a LOT of desert in front of us, so landings aren't even a small problem - even for rookies our web site is: www.ampsrc.org and click on the 'R/C Airport" tab. It get very hot here in the summer

RE: New 81
Now this was a thread! Just started reading through....
I found a brand new H9 P47 arf in perfect condition. I'm really excited as this is my first warbird.
If anyone is still reading this thread and thoughts about using a dle30? I see a lot of people using 50cc but that really seems overkill to me, did I miss something? And if you do use a 50 how far is the prop hub from the firewall?
Thanks,
Steve

Hey Steve
Good luck with your NEW H9 P-47. You will love the way it fly's and lands. It's a piece of cake. I'm running the Evolution GT35cc gas enging and it seems ok for me, I'm not looking for a speed machine, Just a good flying warbird and the EV 35 does that well.

Yes this is a great flying plane, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have.We have two in our club, one with a Moki 1.80 that does just fine and minewith a CRRC Pro GF50i . A piston ported gas engine with the carb on the sidewill bolt right up while some of the rear carb engines will need a little engine boxwork. I think the engine box to prop distance is a little over 5 1/2" stock but I donthave the destructions handy. enjoy and keep us postedTim

Steve,
I also found a NIB ARF one at a Swap meet a year ago. I have a CRRC-50 on mine and it's more than adequate. A DLE-30 would be a little weak for this bird in my opinion. Check on youtube or RCU videos, there are a few flying on Zenoah 26's and they are quite unimpressive. I'd recommend at least a 40 cc.

I'm thinking two ways to solve it.
1. Shorten the firewall by cutting the engine box
2. Go a little backwards and buy the side carb kit (if I can find one)
3. Did I say two ways; maybe a different engine
I fly a lot of gas and all my 30% planes with 50 & 55cc engines have 3d power. If this plane builds about the same weight I don't see it needing a 50cc engine unless I want to hang it on the prop.... am I missing something?

I can see where the Zenoah 26 could be a little weak but a DLE30 is night and day compared to the 26. I'll take your suggestion and start looking for some videos. Thanks!

RE: New 81
I've had mine for a long time now and I still love to fly her.I get a lot of compliments on her all the time.Great flying bird, easier than my TFGS P51's,still a little trouble with original gear.Moki 180,may put a 210 Moki in to see what she will do.Tom p.s. the Moki 180 does a great job and I can't complain about the speed or performance just would like to see what it would do with the extra power.Probably won't but maybe.

RE: New 81
Prop Wash you said it, I love this P-47. It is the best flying warbird I have.
As you know I went with the crrc 50ion a 20x10 and the speed is great.
I did give up on the gear after about 50 flights and went withsierra gear
and have never looked back. There is two lengths of struts from sierra as
the two runs of P-47's were different by 3/8 inch. Mine took the long ones.
You must grease it in every time to still be on the factory retracts. I had a
couple cross wind landings that finally did mine in.
cheers

RE: New 81
Hey guys Nice thread, I just recently got the 150 size P-47 it came completely RTF with a saito 1.80 as a guy I kjnow put it all together but has never flown it, he's had it for about 2 years. is this going to be enough engine on it? Just wondering what to expect, I've been a RC Builder and flyer for about 41 years now so I'm no stranger to the habbits of these beautiful war planes. this was just a deal I couldn't pass up even though I prefer to build them myself.

RE: New 81
The original prototype was designed and flown by Mike Mc Conville with a Saito 180. Plenty of motor for this plane. I want a little more zip, so flying mine with a BME 50 gas. Easy flying and landing plane for a warbird. My advice is to pick one up if you lucky enough to find one in good shape. Paul
