VQ Hurricane .46 size
I test flew my new VQ Hurricane 46 size today. I got 2 flights on it and it flies great. It's powered by a K&B .48 with a Bisson Pitts style muffler and is more than enough power as I flew most of the time at about half throttle. I installed Spring Air retracts so I didn't have to fiddle with the linkage. Empy weight is 7lbs 2 oz. I had to add 11 oz. of weight to balance it in the recommended range. I am impressed withe construction of the model as it is very well built. I need to re-shrink the covering as it has developed some wrinkles while I had it out at the field today. I need to replace the stock spinner as it has some wobble and not as round as it should be. I just ordered the 3 blade alum spinner that Tomas at VQ sells that will fit.

Very Nice Hurricane !!! Always liked the look of them. Glad to hear it flys good, I just hope my VQ Mig-3 flys just as good. It should look great with a 3 blade !

Thanks TF96! I've been following your Mig-3 build. You say it's going out to paint. What are you doing as far as paint scheme changes?? Now if we can get VQ to do a Yak-3, I'll be happy.

RE: VQ Hurricane .46 size
I'am having the wingtips, cockpit interior, and the canopy done. The wingtips & cockpit interior are already done, when I use the term "going out to paint" I'm reffering to the canopy going to my dads friends house to be painted. I look at it as I'm just bettering the looks of the plane ; the wingtips would look better red, the interior would look better black, and the canopy would look better white. I'm not drastically modifying the scheme, just small details. The off-white parts didn't match anyway, and I like to always add a unique touch to any of my planes (whether it be a cool decal, a part painted a certain color, etc.) I agree with you about the Yak 3 ; a Yak 9 or a Polikarpov I-16 would really be awesome or just any Russian fighter would be pretty neat.

RE: VQ Hurricane .46 size
I just picked up a Hurricane 46. I have a couple of questions I needed to ask:
1) I am installing a Magnum 46 (Glow) engine. I would like to mount it upside down. The instructions only show a 4 cycle engine mounted sideways. Does anyone have any thoughts on if it would be okay to mount the 46 upside down?
The concern I have is they mention that the "engine thrust on the bulkhead is already adjusted at the factory".
2) Do I need to re-enforce the firewall in any way?
3) Do I need to re-enforce the wings at the joint in any way? Maybe a strip of fiberglass?
Thanks to all.

RE: VQ Hurricane .46 size
I am running one with a YS .91 and I did not add anything extra to the wing spar. I did cover the firewall with epoxy to fuel-proof it and strenghten it. Mine has been fine so far and I am sure you will not have as much torque as mine. Just fuel-proof the firewall and coat up the joints real well and you should be fine.
