Here is a video on our P-47 landing light system. The devise mentioned is only about $10.

Here is the completed gear with our aluminum gear doors, custom inner gear door actuator, and the electric conversion to the beautiful Sierra gear.
After making this video, we realized that the control arms for the strut cover were too low in the Sierra location. Darrel has a boss machined into the strut for the shackle to seat to. This does not allow the main door to travel up as far as the telescoping strut does. You will see this if you look closely to the video. We moved the shackle up and past the boss which gives the arms the clearance they need. This also meant that new strut covers needed to be made as these would have two extra holes in them.

Nice work as always...
On my Meister P 47 I have same system for inner gear door. Everything work perfect on table, but on air field, during flight, I think on left wing half, inner door almost never want to close.
Problem was, propeller stream was strong and door area is big, so air cylinder was not strong enough to close it. Hinge on that position need a lot of force,..
Air cylinder will be much better to stay on same position like on real Thunderbolt, parallel with landing gear leg, but unfortunately on this model there was not space for that.
Hope inner door will work better on your model than on my...
But the good side always open door is perfect weathering from exhaust system...

We went back to air on the inner doors on the P-47. We had problems with using servos for the reasons you mention. It is hard to imagine that turbulence would be so great as to interfere with the inner doors closing, but it is.
On this setup, the bell crank is hand made for mechanical advantage, and the connection point on the door is longer, for the same reason.
This plane will have a Moki 150 radial, turning a higher pitch 26 X 16 prop at lower RPMs than other gas engines. I believe we have a good setup. Looking forward to the first flights to see for sure.

Servo is worst option, we talked about that when I was made my P 47... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-w...p-step-10.html
Geometric of the bell crank is important. Hope your is better than on my model...
Here is everything OK, thanks...

Here is the completed gear install with minor adjustments to the stock Sierra parts. Brian modified the control arms for the strut covers, and relocated them to avoid a potential problem if the gear strut was fully compressed. This also meant making new strut doors.

Brian had everything working perfectly. The electric gear and air inner doors worked without a hitch. The Moki performed well. It got a little hot on the first flight. After investigation I realized I had bound up the cowl flap cable when I installed the cowl. They were not opening all the way. After I fixed this, it ran much cooler and ran well throughout all the rest of the flying.
Got Dino DiGorgio (Mr Meister himself) behind the sticks for a couple flights. He gave her two thumbs up. Never saw her fly so beautifully.

We are well...
Moved to new city, change our living wholly...
Check my new web site: www.svastabasta.rs
It is in our Serbian language, but, you know me, many pictures are set...
Sorry for disturbing this topic. I'm looking RC Universe always and enjoy in this and many others topics...
Garry, as I told, your P 47, with Moki, is great....
All the best from Senta, Serbia

Flew our P-47 as part of the AMA demonstration at the Cleveland National Air show this past week end. Flew her all three days. On Saturday, I had the return fuel line on the fuel pump come off. As it turned out, all the excess fuel to the carb was being pumped into the belly pan instead of the tank. It took most of the flight to do this, and then the Moki quit from fuel starvation. This happened just as I rounded a turn up wind for a low high speed pass (my favorite maneuver with a radial). The second picture is of her as she went past our flight station, dead stick, about head high. Did not have the time to get the gear down, so all i could do was slow her down (nose high and no flaps so as not to damage them) and set her down very gently on the paved runway at Burk Lakefront airport. I had a few thousand feet to work with, but it only took about 600 to get her slowed down. She was going so slow when she touched down that she only skidded about 20 feet!!!! The only damage was some of the aluminum skin on the belly pan was scraped off!!! Even the prop had stopped in the horizontal. We flew her on Monday only having had to fix the fuel line.
Can't say enough about the way this Meister flies and how well she will handle at even ridiculously slow speed. The only reason she still is in one piece. What a great airplane.
