That is what on hands experience is all about, everything looks good on paper but there is nothing like in field use to really see what works. I had talked to someone about using futaba 3004 in the 1/3 scale GP pitts with a Fuji 50 he stated no problems at all. There was a review a while back in MAN about it. Just because of the money invested in this P-40 I will probably get two more 645's for my peace of mind.

I understand.. But I do use a servo exerciser and burn the standard servos in I run them for about 15 minutes each...Also DId ya'll know that some of the smallest gears in a metal gear servo are nylon...

But the nylon gear is so far up the gear train (close to the servo motor) that the stress is pretty low. I just broke a metal gear servo on steering - landing fast on rough grass. The nylon gear was fine, but a dimple inside the plastic servo case broke where the gear axle rides. So that was the weak link.

I see Hobby King is now offering an aluminum machined metal gear servo with plenty of torque, for around $24.00 each. Wouldn't have to worry about dimples or servo ears breaking.

You still need to be careful with them HK servos, not all of them are good IMHO. The quality of the electronics still play a major function on the servos.

I wouldn't buy one, for the exact reason you mentioned, I've bought too many RTF with junk electronics. Just mentioning the metal case servo & wondering how long before one of the major manufacturers follows HK lead

I have to tell you that I have an experiemnt going with HK servos . I bought medal gear mini servos equal the Hitec versions that sell for $25 each . I bought them from hobby king for $10 each
I am useing them in an 55" epo P40 from airfield or better known as FMS . So far they work great .
I also purchased heavy duty servo wire connections aprox 12" lengths the cost was sometthing like 6 for $4 or 4 for 4 , they sell for $8.00 a piece in some cases .
So we are not too far off subject , I like experiment with my lower end planes ect and see if its worth working up to the highet gear for better planes .
I know that Hobby King is selling the ASP 4 strokes that can easily work for the Top Flight 90 size (dirt cheap )
They are also selling a 55 size engine copy of the DL , mixed reports but many are favorable

Sold so many of mine in the last couple months, my wife didn't even say anything when the kit we don't talk about here showed up. probably better to have a little more time in between purchases before the big bird shows up. Somehow I think the box is going to be a little bigger and a lot more noticeable, I don't think it's going to blend in with the other boxes[X(]

The GS P-40 has been pushed back to late September! You probably won't see them until October some time. Bummer!

Yeah me too... Looks good. It did have a bit of glue drip on the covering around the cockpit area but no big deal. Weston UK's debonder works well for that. There were a few wrinkles in the covering upon first delivery but then there were many more after unpacking. Okay, I ironed them out. Monokote is not my favorite, never has been. I am impressed with the flap interior area as well as the landing gear modules that is well made and features pinned mounting rails. The added cockpit interior is also a great addition and well executed. The question for me is power plant...Do I use a YS 120AC that I all ready have (only broken in) or get another RCV that I have powered my World Models Zero. I'm pretty sure but can use the same size APC 3 blade prop. The YS will be a maintenance queen from what I hear and the RCV will take quite some time to break in (personal experience). Anyone with lots of YS120ac experience here? I'm planning to fly the crap out of this plane with my warbird formation flying buddies and so will see heavy use.

Go with the YS. I have had many and once you get it set up correctly, you will love it.

We received one of the wings from a customer for the 60 size TF P-40.
Real shame they set the plane up for wire retracts.
The also shortened up the strut length and put the Wheel Wells in the wrong place.
I am guessing to keep the wire struts from being too long.

With some simple mods, I am sure we can squeeze in some Quality Pneumatic Retracts
with Oleo Struts.

Photo's in a little while.

Just a heads up GS P-40 has been pushed back to late October. Maybe if we are nice, Santa will be nice and we will see them in time for Christmas. Better to see a P-40 under a tree than in one anyway!! Paul

I have a set of the Lado 60-1 rotacting retracts for the Top Flite P-40 or F4U Corsair I have for sale. They only have 2 flights on them and they are a little small for my needs. They are in perfect working condition and are ready to ship. I had to wait 6 months for them only to find out they would not work on my CMP F4u Corsair. They are perfect for the 60 size War Bird and very well make. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

$80.00 Is the standard shipping cost fro tower for oversized packages. I just shipped a Top-Flite giant Corsair kit and it cost me$40.00 plus $5.00 for insurance at my local post office. This was not an oversized box it was the built up kit.

thanks bob
