If anyone has started theirs already, I have a question about the landing gear blocks... I just started mine and that's where I'm at with it.

Here are some pics of progress at day two. Letting the wing cure overnight. All the airlines, retracts, servo's etc are in. Other than letting it dry, the wing is done!!

Yeah, the only thing that has given me a little trouble was the landing gear blocks. One of the holes on each side didn't quite line up right with the blind nuts. Not a big deal really, just a very minor setback. Other than that... it is a thing of beauty. Got the tail section done. Next up is the tailwheel, etc..

Impressive kit. Mine showed up a week or so ago but just getting started.
On the servo moutning plates, my left wing flap slot is cut out wrong. The slot is more or less centered (instead of being close to the edge on one side). Rather than cut and patch I will leave it for now and get a replacement.
Is it better to mount the servo with the side against the plywood (strength) or stand it off just a hair (vibration)? I have not run a gasser before.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
Well, I have done it both ways without any issues. I'm not sure what the "norm" is. I use to put a piece of double sided sticky tape between them, but not really sure that did anything.. For what it's worth, I have no gap in my GS P51, GS P47, Pica GS P51, or my Nosen P51... and I don't have the gap in this plane either.

ace1726, you are bringing back some memories for me. I remember before I was married I had planes in the kitchen, living room, and even the bedrooms ! Now planes are allowed only in the shop! Oh well, at least I can still HAVE planes ! And you have RC cars too! Paul

Hey Paul, glad I can help with the memories... However......... As nice and understanding my wife is, she wouldn't allow planes in the kitchen. The one you see in the pics is my own kitchen in my airplane room. I converted my 2 car garage to a living space including a full bath & kitchen. Btw, there are a couple of small planes in the bath also.. Hope this helps!!!

Here are some completed pics.
Cal is going to fly it this afternoon when the temps warm up to 32 today. Right now it it about 20 degrees.
No extra lead added to balance it.
Motor started right up and ran perfectly. Choke servo added to the DLE-55.
Will post flying pictures later today.

Well, Cal Branton flew the P-40 on it's maiden flight today. It flew great with the DLE-55 up front. We had a very cold 15 mph slight crosswind out of the Northeast. No snow down in southern Minnesota today. Needed about 5 clicks of down elevator, but not bad. here are a few pics.
Tim and Phil with Tims New P-61 that his wife bought for him... Nice job Karen.

How does the muffler side look??? Any holes in the cowl for the bolts?? I am officially looking for a motor. My MT57 is just a tad too long. Oh well, so much for that idea.

No holes in the cowl at all. Cal used the Pitts style muffler and dumped it into the cowl to exit aft. Hope this helps.

Glad to hear all is well. Did anyone happen to get some video?? BTW, the install with the DLE looks fantastic. I may just go that route.

No video on this flight. Tanner Becken in Hastings MN did the install. What a nice, cheap, motor too. Plenty of power and unlimited vertical. I think total amount of money spent is right at $2000.00 buck though...
It is still expensive but what else can you get in that size that flies that good, in less than a week??? A Yellow P-40 is still gonna be the same amount of money, but certainly not an arf.
This would ba a great project to come in an arc version that can be fiberglassed and painted to suit. I hope they will release one next year...

Rebel; I like the idea of dumping the exhaust out through the open Aft Cowl Flaps; from the picture, the inside are of the Cowl where the exhaust gets dumped, looks silver, is that some sort of paint or foil to serve as heat sheild?
