yep I agree, but I have already setup everything per manual and do not feel like adjusting at this point.

I understand. Rotating the engine can be a pain to do.

My plane is ready to fly but I have a 22x8 prop on the DLE 55. I noticed everyone is running a 22x10. I would like to get the plane in the air but not at the expense of crashing because of the wrong prop ... Has anyone ran a 22x8 prop on this plane. I tried searching but came up with nothing.

The 22x8 is the correct prop for the DLE 55! I have 22x8 props on both my DLE powered TF P-51 and ESM Spitfire and they provide more than enough thrust to fly the WWII fighters the way they were designed to fly. You can always change to a 22x10 when you require a little more top end speed but then you lose a bit of prop braking power on landing with the 22x10.

Ok thanks, I have a Xoar 22x8 on the P-40 and I have a P-47 with a APC 22x10 that flies it around nice. I will try the 22x8 Since it is a newer engine with only a tank ran through it and try the 22x10 from my P-47 if I do not like the 22x8.

Stainless steel safety wire, where to get locally? I have searched a few places but I have to order. I am trying to get some safety wire for my exhaust bolts and seem to not be able to find any locally instock. Suggestions....

I threw away the wire for the rudder that came with the plane and could have used it

I wire all my muffler bolts with 2-56 rods thru holes I drill in the sides of the cap bolt head. Then just bend the ends down. This makes it very easy to remove if need. I have been doing this for many years and my mufflers don't loosen up.

Just out of curiosity, are you using the gasket on your muffler?

Yes I am. I read people use RTV but I decided to use the gasket. Will see how it goes inaddtion to the security wires.

With the wire, the gasket is all that is needed.

I quit using the gaskets years ago. Permatex copper and high-temp red threadlocker. Zero loose muffler issues....for years.

FWIW

I guess the RTV provides a better means of dampening with the vibration. I installed the jtec muffler with the factory gasket, factory bolts and red locktite...bolts came loose with with just a quick sound check of the Jtec muffler. I have not had any issues with the same combo on my other DLE with factory muffler. Either way I think I should be good since I have the wire in the bolts now. Ran it up yesterday and did a range check, especially since I am still running 72 on a gas setup . All was well with the bolts and range check. Hope to probably take the plane up next week.

Well balanced it out today. Without the retracts and with the fixed gear I balanced it out with about 5.25 oz on the tail. Total weight is about 19.5 lbs with the DLE 55, jtec muffler, futaba s3010, nimh 4500 mah RX battery, nimh 600 mah ignition battery. Hopefully next year I will get the retract main and tail gear.

Surprised to hear it needed that much weight in the tail.

i was too but I am guessing it is because I did not do the retracts. I am sure when I do the retracts next yer it will balance nice.

Never considered that!

You'll love the way it looks in the air. The plane has a lot of character and nothing else looks like it on a fly-by. My only recommendation is use factory low-rates to fly, and keep the speed on approach a little higher that you think it needs. 2-point landings are the best with this design. I studied about a dozen Youtube videos to learn its landing habits. The videos by Sam Fawaz and a guy named Affas are the best examples, in my opinion.

My oldest T.F. Giant P-40 is had its' 8th birthday. Not bad for a warbird.

Rowdog, I would want bigger battery on ignition. I had a 50cc engine that would not start using a 700mah battery. It would be bad to have the engine die in the air because of the ignition battery.

I have a 750mah in my p-47 that has a DLE55. I have done 4 flights and still had plenty left. I think the 600 will be fine for test flight but yes I am going to add a 750 into the P-40 too. My 600 though starts the engine just fine and rpm's are great.

Sounds good. My experience with the ignition batteries was several years ago with another brand of engine..Good luck with the maiden flight.

Anyone using solid tail wheel controls with ball links on the tail wheel end versus the control wire?

Well took the plane up for first flight today. Flew like a dream. Only issues

1. I took off too slow on first takeoff and it did a hard turn left, so had to abort
2. Had the factory fixed gear in and one bent a little causing the left wing to scrape the ground after landing.

Forgot to add in some down trim for full flaps

Yes looked great in the air even with the fixed gear!!!!

22x8 flies it great. I think I will probably stick with the 22x8 at this field since it is a smaller field. Maybe try a 22x10 at a larger field.

Now want to get the Corsair, LOL

The 600 held up good. 1 long flight and 1 short I have 4.88 volts on the battery. I could probably get one more short flight out of it. I am done flying it and need to save up and get the landing gear and a pilot. When I get those I will get a 750mah battery like what is in my P-47.
