Not a bad idea, but there is nothing there to attach them to. You would have to make a manifold for them. A little more labor intensive then a wished at this time, but a viable option.

Guys, this plane has been out for a while and I am looking to get it and I currently have a older DLE 55 with side exhaust and I am sure the DLE55 the manual recommends is this one. My question revolves around they have came out with the DLE55 rear exhaust and the DLE 61 since. Both the the 55 rear and the 61 with about the same 3.94 lbs vs 3.99lbs compared to the older 55 3.35lbs. Has any tried with the new DLE 55 or the 61 and does it balance out pretty close like the older DLE 55. If so I am sure I could swing a 22x10 three blade with the 61.

With the older DLE 55, a J-Tech inverted pitts muffler, and the ignition system and it's battery somewhere near the front, both of my T.F.Giant Scale P-40's balance perfectly. One has a 20x12x3 and is very fast, the other has a Xoar 22x8x3 and flies scale, but still fast enough to be fun.

I have an EME 60 in Top Flite's big Corsair arf and it swings a mejzlik 22x10x3 very well. I don't think a Xoar of the same dimension would be as good a choice. The Mejzliks seem to wind up a bit faster.

You'll like the big P-40. Nothing else looks quite like it in the air. The sharks teeth have an "in your face" quality that's really cool. Keep your speed up in the landings in any case. It is NOT a glider!

Thanks for the input. I have flown a TF staggerwing and Hangar 9 P-47. The Staggering liked the be flown in too. So I should be good with that.

Forgot to mention that I balanced both at the rear-most recommended point as indicated in the assembly manual. I fly it on the recommended low rates as well. Very smooth!

Well I got the P-40 on Wednesday. This is a nice plane and is just as nice as the TF Staggerwing I had. I love how you can put a full size 1/5 pilot in the plane. I found a used but really good shape older version DLE55. Will probably be a little while before I take it up but I am itching to get it done and it is probably going to kill me not to finish it soon...

I actually decided to cut off the covering and glue it as I should. I have a hangar 9 hellcat I got from a guy that has canopy glue on it. It is actually coming off.

Follow the instructions when gluing on the pan. Gluing to the covering works with a canopy but not recommended for something as large as a belly pan.

Concerning the belly pan some place on this thread is a suggestion to use LOW EXPANDING foam to fill the void in the belly pan I would recommend that you consider doing that when you finally get the belly pan attached it will stiffen it up so it doesn't collapse if it is set on something that puts direct pressure on the BP.

I added the belly pan per the instructions, but while curing it moved about 3mm. I almost want to buy a new plane just because it is now off centered. lol. I had it taped down but some how it moved just a little. I added a long piece of wood and it firmed it up but I might go and get some foam too after reading this.

Just be sure that you tape something to catch the foam as it expands and rolls out.Foam is permanent on whatever it touches.

So I searched this forum and just wondering. I know the suggested servo torque and gears. I had and currently have a hangar 9 p-47 150 with a dle 55. It has two JR DS821 on the elevator, futaba s3010 on the ail and rudder, hitec 5625mg on the flaps. All running on 4.8v.

So I saw a guy say in this forum say he is using the s3010. I know most suggest the hitec 645, 5645. Not worried about spending the extra $7 per servo but realistically if I can fly my 150 P-47 with the s3010 and ds821 what really is the need to spend the extra $7 per servo for the 645 or 5645?

I have searched mufflers in this forum but nothing really answered my question. I was thinking the outlets on the recommended muffler were too long to get the cowl on and off without cutting a major hole in the bottom, and reading I have confirmed that you do. I am looking to stay away from doing that and also trying to stay away from cutting the recommended Jtec muffler down so the cowl can slip on and off. So my question is will either of these work with the TF P-40.

Just FYI I would be willing to add rubber tubing to clear the cowl if needed. I am going to email Jtec too but hoping someone here might have an answer and possibly pictures of one of the ones I posted below.

Thanks yeah I see most running that and I almost got it until I search hear and say people having to either cut the cowl out more or cut the exhaust down some. I emailed them instead of calling so they can see what I am talking about with the links. Worst case I will just buy the recommended muffler and cut it down like everyone else.

Jtech confirmed anything other than the P40 wraparound muffler will stick out. I measured the bisson and with a 3/8 flange and 1 inch off the flange it will stick out about 1/8 inch causing me to cut a relief. So I just ordered the recommended muffler for the TF p40 and will cut down the exhaust tubes. P-40 is pretty much done, Need to install the exhaust solder the control end and it is ready to fly. I am fling with the fixed landing gear first. My wife saw how much the landing gear cost and told me I would have to get them next year lol.

There is always the option of slightly rotating the engine to gain clearance within the cowl for the muffler. In many instances, even a factory muffler can be made to clear.
