Hey Guys, I was noticing Nudge's gear door attachment way back and I'm ordering the servos and programmer per Kwik's recommendation. Just what type of adhesive would be best for attaching the hinges and stiffbacks for servo ball joint to the gear door itself? Comments?

Hi everyone, happy to join you on this forum after more than thirty years of inactivity on RC models...
When I was fourteen, I built a plane and a glider, a lot of fun with them, but since I never found time to restart this hobby…until I discovered this forum and this post one year ago.
Very impressed with the discovery of these beautiful Corsairs, it reminded me an old TV series that I loved being young.
After watching several kits, I decided to buy an ESM kit to Big Plane in Nederland, I received it after several months of waiting (not available when I ordered it)
Now, I ‘m happy to be in the family of RC Corsair owners, but will be happier when I'll be in the family of Corsair flying !!!

So, photo of the plane:

First job was to create news wing joiners, in aluminum (same weight that original), because original ones don't fit well in wings (lot of clearance)

And second job was to create a mold of the fuselage and the central part of the wing, not to make copies of the bird, but to be able to recreate a skin if I do a bad fly in the future ...

Wow Fred, pretty impressive molding work. Pappy Boyington would have been proud. Obviously you've got time now. I'm hoping to retire sometime this year and have some more time myself. Good Luck!

I'm speechless! Amazing work.
I hope you build the center section better than the Chinese.

On an entirely different subject,I'm on the lookout for a yellow aircraft p-38 to make brushless. Anybody know of a private or retail source for a kit from any country?I'm trying to line one up to do after the Corsair is done- someday. Thanks

Default Heavy WEIGHT

So Im almost done building mine.

Weight without fuel: 16,8kg / 37 lb !!!

The heaviest ones I have seen online are 15,5kg / 34 lb
Should I be worried or just fly?

Saito FG84
ESM air retracts
Two elevator servos in tail plane (2x28g/0,98oz)
I moved the tail retract servo up front and used a long rod to connect it.

Good day Claus; go to page 22, post # 534 of this ESM 50cc Corsair thread. The owner flew his ESM Corsair at 36lbs and said he had no issues with the plane at that weight.

G'day all,
mine came in at just over 15kg, over 33lbs, I have the 2 elevator servos under the tail plane, but they were the lightest standard size I could find, I also did the mods on the centre section, EME 70 twin, heaps of flap, C of G as per the book and this forum, it is elevator sensitive after the wheels retract, so you wont need much throw, 3/8 would be heaps for fly rates,
if you have a good engine and dont fly it like a 3D model it should be great. Fly smooth.

Thank you all for your replies !
I shaved of 600g / 1.3 lbs of the added nose weights by moving the tailgear servo to center adding a long carbon pushrod. Also I moved the ignition box out on a bracket on the engine cooling block - thereby I could move the rx battery out to the firewall. Dont want ign/rx bat next to each other for safety.
Dont think the ign box will get too hot !
Its now on 35.7 lbs / 16.2kg

The retractable tail wheel is in place

I chose to install a Hangar 9 tail whell but i rebuilt a new mount to relocate the tail whell, and to fix it directely, without wood brace

hi, the book states 135mm,
I used that number to balance mine, with the wheels up, very important, means a fair bit of ballast up front, then I got a mate to turn up a solid steel spinner for me, as well, glad I did,
I would say go with 130mm back from the most forward point of the wing, it is safer to fly a model that is on the nose heavy side, tail heavy even a bit is not good for the heart rate.
even at 130 it will be elevator sensitive, so if you think it is too touchy put the wheels down, quick. the book shows 25mm throws either side of neutral for the elevator, I think that is criminal, I am flying with about 10mm on low rates, bit more for landing, they like heaps of flap.
it is a War Bird, not a 3D model, fly smooth, you will love it. you can download the manual.

Work in progress on the canopy.

I had opportunity to find a Hangar 9 Corsair canopy. Good shape for the ESM corsair :

I have made aluminium frame, first step for the winshield :

and after several hours to form aluminum sheet, and one hundred and fifty screws, canopy is made :

There is still much work to finish it : polishing, adjusting, fixing.

Hi guys,

Could someone please summarise or point me in the direction of the mods that are necessary to this model particularly in the centre section of the wing to save me reading through 105 pages? I know the glass work has a tendency to warp and was planning on some judicious placement of carbon cloth or tow but would like to know what others have done.

Thanks in advance!

hello Craig,
I fitted the wing in place, reached in through the nose and drew a line around the top of the wing, then cut a big area out, that gave me access to the internals, I made up some ply doublers, a lot of mucking about, I have spoken to someone that had a wing fail, but he liked 3d rates,
would strongly recommend you at least have a quick look through all these pages, as there is a LOT of very useful info. I made a lot of other changes to mine as well. send me a PM with a phone number and we can talk

Question for some of you ol' timers and new guys.... Is this like the turbine thread where if your end game is to go gas then start with a gas model? Right now I am flying an easy stik and a Giant stik.... both built and moded by me but they are electric. Was thinking of getting the FMS 1700mm F4U to start with before going ahead and getting this EMS MARINES Dream. Any thoughts or suggestions. Nearest field is 1.5 hours so.... I can't always make it down to mingle with the flyers down there. I am also self taught. Thanks.

Al , I dont have this ESM , I have the 75" smaller one. I also have the FMS 1700 Corsair. This larger esm can easily be flown as an electric and at my club many have been converted. The ESM corsair tend to be tail heavy so epower helps with the battery weight as far forward as possible.
My next question based on your post ( not knowing more ) is that the FMS 1700 corsair is similar to flying a kite and the esm corsair is a heavy warbird with more skill and stick time needed for success. So if you have not flown a heavy warbird, you can not compare the FMS 1700 corsair to the ESM corsair. They will have a dramatically different feel especially on take off
