Thanks Calvi.

Im about half way on the fuse. To keep it all on center line i built that little jig to butt up against the fire wall. Just a couple tacks of glue to hold it.

This is a fun fuse to build! I needed to start it upside down so the tops of the formers kept it flat on the bench. After the first 5 formers were glued, i flipped the fuse over and glued it back to the jig to keep the fire wall centered and had to prop it up level with some scrap stanchions. Then i installed the rest of the formers. At the last former i made another scrap jig to hold the aft end centered over the plan.

If you guys are building to the plans you will run into the same issues as i have. One major change i have made was the cockpit area. The plans have it removable frame F6 all the way to the firewall F1. This obviously interferes with the cabane struts. I added two extra formers just behind F3. This is where the removable cockpit will connect to the fuse. I added some notes to the plans in the pic below. I modified FT3a so that i can drill peg holes for mounting the cockpit. FT3a i glued to the aft side of F3.

The top 10 x 10mm stick, i glued to the bottom stick and shaved flat and level with F4 and F5 from the aft side of FT3a to F6. This is so i can make a flat surface for the removable cockpit to lay. Hope that makes sense. If not the pics should do the job.

Just a few pics of the tail coming together. Had to notch the 10mm stick to accept the 5mm sticks.

If you don't mind a dumb question, why is the cockpit removable?

If done right you can make it look seamless. I also like as much access as i can to the radio gear. In my opinion there is not quite enough access through the bottom of the fuse and i would hate to have to disassemble the wings to do some minor adjustments.

Sounds good, makes perfect sense. So far all my other Pitts have removable aluminum skins, but I probably would not do it that way on this type of Pitts.

A few more of the cockpit. On all my models i like to cut the cockpit floor out so that the guts are visible. I think it looks cool. Unless its a super scale project.

Anyone think a 6.7 gear reduction Neu 1521-1.5Y on 12S would be overkill? (50cc gas equivalent) I can swing a 22x10 2 blade or 20x10 3 blade.
