Look in the manual of your transmitter or your esc it is probably in race mode. That means reverse is disabled.

This is definitely a problem with the transmitter...

This is definitely a problem with the transmitter or receiver. You could try to rebind them together. Check all your connections and make sure no of them are being shorted in the receiver.

My advice is make sure everything is clean and you're good to go. Since it's been 7 years check all the rubber and make sure it hasn't disintegrated. Good luck and tell us how it goes!

Thanks for the help. The reason it was bogging down so much is because I wasn't running at operating temperature (didn't have temp gun). Also it was way too cold out to be trying to tune the engine...
