RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

David,

Thanks as always for the kind words. My old man is doing well, I will tell him you said hello.

Will you be on the D1 IMAC circuit at all this coming season? If so I look forward...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

The community access channel for the town at my home club did a little feature on our fly-in. I was a featured demo pilot with my 78" Extra and the host of the show did a little interview with me:

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

Nice job! Your motor box looks fantastic. Is that a PilotX?

I have found that with this airplane you can fly with the CG fairly far forward without compromising 3D. Mine is just a little bit...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

Very little. Mixed mine out with about 2% elevator, 3-4% aileron.

Ailerons:

With full surface deflection (40 degrees, I think) 172 oz-in is not enough. If you used a shorter arm and set it up for less travel you could probably get away with 172 oz-in. ...

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

Everybody where I fly does...good performance, cheap, and widely available. I usually yell at anyone I see flying Master Airscrew until they switch it out or go home.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

I switched from a Zinger to the same size Vess and noticed a LOT of performance increase. Xoar are very good too, and quieter than Vess. They are also made from denser wood that deforms less when...

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

No problem Gary. Give the teflon coupler a shot; it works very well.

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

Flew mine about ten or twelve flights...man this thing is awesome! Great blend of 3D and precision. I have never flown an airplane that's this stable and controlled in 3D, and the precision is, as...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

The manual recommends 120 oz-in on all surfaces. I have 7985mg's; they're fast and powerful (172 oz-in and .13s). The manual also recommends these. One person reported blowback with 985mg's on the...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

Matt,

Thanks for all the help so far in setting the airplane up. One more quick question:

On your cowl, in some of the earlier pictures you had a very small cut-out for just the spark plug...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

I'm setting mine up right now with the ES30G and SAP 180.

Two questions:

1. What's a good plug-to-baffle distance for a Vess 18x6? I've heard 27.5," is this right?

2. How do I...

RE: Lets See Some Fun Fly Plane Pics

A seven year bump...that's some kind of record.

Nice looking airplane.

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

Actually, after reading MTK's comment (and he has way more experience with this airplane than I do :P), it will probably be OK, but I stand by my claim that the engine would be better suited to the...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

I haven't finished mine but the DLE 55 will be way too much. The plane is super light. Get the 88" version if you want to use the DLE 55. The DLE 55 in the 78" version would be a terrible...

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

I'm going to just put the engine in the EF Extra with the pipe. It should be much lighter and fly better. At 12 pounds (certainly doable), with the ES pipe, it should be great.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

I'll definitely use a tach next time I run it. I have enough power for 3D (but without a lot to spare) in this Yak. It pulls out of a hover OK and carries an upline fairly well. I don't know how...

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

Thanks for your quick response and suggestions.

I haven't had the engine running too long. I put maybe 50-60 minutes on it at factory needle settings with Pennzoil Air-cooled at 40:1, going...

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

I've been flying my Syssa in a Nitroplanes Yak (a real pig). The needles are set per the instructions. When I keep the low speed rich enough to not stumble on when you advance it, the engine seems...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300, 78

Thanks for your help so far, Matt. One more question: How has your luck been with the silicone coupler? I spoke with Ed at ES and he said that he uses a teflon coupler instead. I know that...

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

I asked Ben (the owner of 3DHS) about that and he said that the back of the pipe tunnel is just a piece of balsa that can be removed easily to accommodate a pipe.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

There's also the 3DHobbyshop 70" Slick. The tunnel is set up for a can, but it can be easily modified to accommodate an E.S. pipe.
