RE: Best .40 size 3D (beginners) plane ?!

For the money and for the motor you have, I like the Modeltech Magic Extra (NOT the normal Magic, make sure it's the "Extra"). It's pretty small for a 40, and it is a good 3D ship that still does...

RE: saito 180 to big for a funtana .90 ?

I would use a small about of epoxy to reinforce the firewall joints. You'll need taller main gear (CF is a good option for weight reduction -...

RE: saito 180 to big for a funtana .90 ?

It will be fine. A lot of people are putting the 1.50 on it (including myself), which is sufficient. I wouldn't say the 1.80 is overkill, because I love power, but I think it may be the rule of...

RE: Funtana 90!

APC makes a 18x6W - would that be too much if running 30% on the 1.50? From what I've read, probably too much prop.

RE: Funtana 90!

Does anyone know for sure if the larger Perry oscillating pump will feed enough fuel to the Saito 1.50? I've heard differing opinions.

RE: Funtana 90!

Just by switching to Lipo batteries, CF landing gear, and lighter wheels/axles you can make more of a weight difference than the weight difference between any of the proposed motors.

RE: Funtana 90!

Excellent points. I'm just approaching it from the standpoint of someone who already had a Saito 1.50 and wants to close the performance gap with the YS. In retrospect, I would've purchased the YS...

RE: Funtana 90!

If the primary advantage of the YS is the pressurized fuel system, why not run a Perry pump on a Saito 1.50? Would that close at least some of the reported performance gap between the YS and the...

RE: Funtana 90 What engine ???????? help

TManiaci,

Are you running the stock motor mount? If so, how's the vibration? Also, I was considering some of the boosted servo extensions from servocity.com for the tail servos since it's such...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic

I'm running standard servos on mine . . . and I have them setup for mechanical DISadvantage, hehe. I'm running 6V, but would still like the servos to be a bit quicker. No flutter on mine so far. I...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic

FYI, HobbyPeople.net has Magnum .91 4-strokes on sale for $150. I ordered another one to replace the rather old Mag .91 currently on my Twist. Great motor for the Twist, and at $150 you can't go...

RE: magnum 4 stroke quality questions

What about 30% heli fuel in a Magnum .91? I like the 30% for my other engines, but I think it may be causing predetonation in my Magnum. I hear a knocking at certain RPMs.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic

Kewl, I'll definitely try that next flight. I guessed and made my extentions 2 inches as well.

Any tips on elevatoring this beast? I can easily elevator my Extremeflight Mini 3D, but the Twist...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic

thevirginian,

I added your mod to my Twist, and you're right. It just makes the plane behave better all around. Definitely worth the trouble. I still can't elevator this plane. I can tail...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic

I'm thinking about cutting a small horizontal groove in the wing tip from front to back, glueing a sheet of thin ply into the groove so that it sticks out maybe 3 inches, putting a couple of braces...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic

Yeah, I just made a cut in the monocote and used velcro and a zip tie to secure the battery. Then I covered the cut with clear packing tape. Not extremely elegant, but effective.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic

I have my battery just in front of the tail servos. I'm only running a 2 cell 850 mah Lipo pack, so it's not as drastic as it sounds, but you can slide the battery as far back as you want.

RE: Funtana 90!

Nice setup! You have a fortune in radio equipment. I couldn't afford digitals, so I'm running high-torque (144 oz) MG analog servos. I'll hopefully upgrade one day.

This may be a stupid...
