Ryobi Factory Error

I converted a 28cc Ryobi a year ago and have been flying a 1/4 scale cub with it. As this left me with no string trimmer, I picked up another new one on sale. It never ran worth ____. Almost...

RE: Building a large RC boat from scratch

Reed valve and piston port 2 stroke engines can be made to run in reverse by moving the flywheel to get ignition timing in the same spot on the other side. Real simple if you remove the flywheel and...

RE: Best tachometer (that is available)

Doug:

Sorry I didn't check back in here till now. All I can think is that you have a duff unit. Mine is working well and is very forgiving of angle, sun brightness, etc. The only thing that...

RE: Alternative to degree wheel timing

Determining crank angle from piston position is not as simple as determining distance between points on an arc, or even determining the vertical (in line with bore) component of some degrees of...

RE: HOW TO SEAL RYOBI SLOTS!!!!

I dropped the Ryobi cylinder in my 1/4 scale Cub last night to check on the JB weld plugged decompression slots. It's still hanging in there OK, looks the same as when I first put it in. I haven't...

RE: The power of word-of-mouth...

As a quick and cheap solution, I made a box for each wing of my 1/4 scale cub from corrugated cardboard. The boxes are "end-loaders" with foam in the ends to prevent rattling. Boxes can knock around...

RE: Error

I have a servo controlled choke, which is handy for starting, and will flood out the engine if I need to kill it. Used it once when plastic throttle connector failed.

9 VDC receiver

I was given a tired little RC boat that still had a functional Futaba 2 channel radio. I was surprised to see the receiver had a connector for a 9 VDC battery. Is this the stock set-up? If so, is...

RE: When are Radio's Junk

I knew my 20 year old Hitec had to be put to pasture after it caused the loss of the 3rd plane in less than a year. Puddle Jumper due to poor battery lead connection at the receiver, foam Mustang due...

RE: Crazy4RC

I bought an Air Wild, "Wild Gage" tach at Toledo last April at a show special price of $35 and I'm very pleased with it. It will read 2, 3. and 4 blade props, and it comes with good quality test...

RE: HOW TO SEAL RYOBI SLOTS!!!!

As I've mentioned on this forum before, I plugged the decompression slots in my Ryobi 28cc with JB Weld after undercutting like a dentist would do for a filling. Still hanging in there after a couple...

RE: 1/4 Scale Kitten?

Ooops, 20% enlargement gives 108" span, which is 9', not the 8' typo as per my previous post. Area is still 1555 sq in and the rest is OK (?!).

RE: 1/4 Scale Kitten?

I don't think you need to go to 30% or even 25% enlargement. 20% will give you an 8 Ft, wing and 1555 sq. in. area, and if you can keep the weight down to 12 or 14 lbs or so, it will float like a...

RE: The Plan

Yes a cordless drill would be ideal, if it has enough power. My 12V Black and Decker doesn't have the guts.
If I want to start the motor at home I usually use a corded 3/8" drill, which works fine.

RE: The Plan...stage one...thanks Peter!

Yes, you need to plug the primer bulb line at the carb if you don't plan to use it.
If you still have all the string trimmer extra parts, and you like to tinker, you can make a recoil starter that...

RE: Intake ports on Ryobi 31cc

I don't think the stuff would last at all at a real hot spot, such as near the exhaust port, but the transfer port area gets cooled by the incoming charge each stroke.

RE: Intake ports on Ryobi 31cc

Hi Fastball:

I filled the compression bleed ports with JB Weld, and it seems to be working fine. I made some test stand runs first, and when I pulled the cylinder the JB Weld looked fine. I've...

RE: Kioritz runs slowly

A two stroke runs very poorly if it has poor crankcase compression. Make sure the shaft seals are good and that there are no leaky joints.

Servos for 1/4 scale Cub?

I've recently finished a Balsa USA 1/4 scale Cub, 28 cc Ryobi conversion, 17 pounds. This is the first model I've built anywhere near this large. I've test flown it with the standard Futaba S3004...

RE: What do you have your conversion in???

My converted Ryobi 28 is in a Balsa USA 1/4 scale Cub. The thing weighs 17 lbs, and I've only flown it once, but the take-off roll was short, and it flew about in a very pleasant Cub-like manner....

RE: Goldberg Ultimate w/25cc Homie Flight Tests

Tom:

Very nice building and finishing job on your Ultimate! The Homelite should have plenty of power to haul 11 pounds in any direction you wish. I guess you used an iron-on plastic film...

RE: First Flight, Ryobi Cub.

It's the Balsa USA 1/4 scale Cub kit, and has a span of 108".
I built it as per plans, except for making the the horizontal stab in 2 pieces, and removeable. I covered it with Sig coverall...

First Flight, Ryobi Cub.

Well, it was the big day. I flew the 1/4 scale Cub with the home grown Ryobi 28cc conversion for the first time. There were really no problems. The Ryobi with an 18x6 Dynathrust hauled the 17 lb Cub...

RE: Flywheel balancing - which balancer?

Before you cut the flywheel fins down, you might want to note the location and amount of imbalance on the stock wheel so you can compare to post-machined wheel. You already know the location, just...
