RE: Giles 202 17% Lanier

I had one of those evil little dogs. It weighed 75 oz with an OS 40 four stroke on it. Tore the landing gear off on about every 3rd landing. Best to keep that sucker going fast to avoid its nasty...

RE: Very Bad Luck

Don't get too excited about the "28 pounds". UPS charges by "cubic weight" on outsized packages. A big, awkward ARF box might only weigh 6 pounds, but they will charge the same as if it was a small...

RE: Afraid to Crash.....well, not anymore

Great story!

I race electric AT-6 parkflyers on a regular basis with a group of guys. There ends up being lots of plane to plane contact and the carnage can be pretty ugly, but it is great fun....

RE: Seagull Extra300 Conversion to Glow

I haven't got one, but the posts I've seen from others on what they are using is anywhere from 200-400 watts. Around 250 watts is minimum needed for decent uplines on a 30 ounce airplane. That puts...

RE: Seagull Extra300 Conversion to Glow

I'm thinking of converting my car to steam. Looking for pointers on that too.

RE: Lipo charging

Here's a 10 amp Pyramid for $34.99 : http://www.millionbuy.com/pyrps12k.html

The Radio Shack units do not have realistic prices.

The have higher power ones too. I run multiple chargers off...

RE: ESC heat problem

jdetray nailed this one. This motor is ill suited for direct drive use. You are trying to drive those 6" props to 56,000 rpm and that takes a lot more than 25 amps! The one thing that you have...

RE: Counter Rotating Props...!!!

I've met a local guy who builds small gearboxes for counter-rotating prop applications. He even got it featured in Model Aviation. I doubt he has sold even a dozen of them. I don't think you will...

RE: Uncommanded roll

Make sure the battery leads don't go anywhere near the receiver or antenna. Make sure the antenna is not close to or parallel to any servo wires or metal pushrods. Where is the antenna? Is it...

RE: Uncommanded roll

Prop torque will flip you over to the left when there is not enough airspeed for the wings to support the plane. Sounds like a classic stall. Keep some power on during landing approach and make sure...

RE: Car cigarette lighter charging with just ammeter and lamp cord

I used to charge the same way in the early eighties. Would only work with 6 cell packs. If you didn't pay attention your cells would overheat and vent. That is why all the planes and cars used 6...

RE: electronic noise? (glitch)

Had the same thing happen to me. Mini antennas are great, but placement issues become super critical. I learned the hard way.

Is the antenna mounted vertically on top of the fuse? Trial and...

RE: First Formosa.... ???'s

Mike,

If I had some carbon tow when assembling, I would have done the same as you. Holding the plane from the wingtips illustrates how much flex the wings do have, but I haven't noticed it...

RE: First Formosa.... ???'s

Fence,

I've got a Formosa with the B20-15L. It is a dream set up. I used the lower hole for the motor stick and a Stevens plywood B20 mount from www.stevensaero.com or www.aeromicro.com. ...

RE: GWS Formosa or Formosa II?

Cool,

Sounds like excessive elevator travel. The GWS manual shows 15-35mm each way for recommended travel. I think that is a misprint, or at least a big mistake. I think it should be 15-35mm...

RE: GWS Formosa or Formosa II?

Coolbean,

Are you using the AAA size 8 cell packs? If so, then they can be a big part of the problem. For some reason GWS recommends these dogs. The 350 motor works well at about 9 amps in,...

RE: GWS A10 for a beginner

Todd,

Electric ducted fans with brushed motors are generally dogs. The only way to get decent performance from that thing is to go to pusher props or to replace the motors with brushless (lots...

RE: GWS Formosa or Formosa II?

The major difference between the two is that the Formosa exists in reality and the Formosa II does not. The II has been promised for over a year, but is still somewhre off in the future. Buy the...

RE: Which Prop - See chart in thread - Help.

Nitro,

A couple of points to consider.

An electric motor spins at fixed number of rpm/volt. In the case of the 2105-4100, that number is 4100 rpm/volt. The seven cell pack will spin the...

RE: cd-rom motors

To put any kind of useful power through them you must replace the plastic ring magnet with some rare earth 1mm x 5mm x 5mm magnets. Then you will need to rewind it with the proper gage wire at the...

RE: Geared 400 Question

Using what prop? Bigger prop = bigger electrical load. Bigger electrical load = more heat. Pick the right prop and your motor will not burn out. Need to also know what type aircraft in order to...

RE: Hangar 9 Mini Funtana poor performance

Tom,

What gear ratio are you using? The Park 400 with a 3 cell 1800 battery should be able to use about 200 watts. That should get you 1/2 throttle hovering and unlimited vertical. Try a 4.4:1...

RE: What motor to use?

Back down a couple of prop sizes with the 3 cell. For instance if you have a 10 x 6 prop on it, then try a 9 x 4.75 with the 3 cell.

The voltage "sweet spot" for most of the sub-400 size can...

RE: Slow V motor cutoff

Did you change the prop? If you fitted a prop that has more pitch and/or diameter, then you could have pushed the load beyond what your batteries are able to put out. When you push throttle to...
