RE: magnum.... airplane?

Hello Crazy4Flight,

well I carelessly overlooked that there are two very different parties involved:

1. The Plug-and-Play, ARF fun sport speed pylon …. Freaks

2. The very small but...

RE: magnum.... airplane?

RIGHT, not trying to bash a commercial kit. But let’s do some summarising:

No fully cowled engine

No fully enclosed tuned pipe

Absolutely unacceptable wing layout...

RE: Stiletto from Corvidae.net

Hello j0rrit,

looking for the right prop setup:

Although the Stiletto fuse is quite bulky for a 6.5 diameter prop - better would be a diameter of 7" here - I would like to recommend an...

RE: Blizzard from Corvidae.net

Hello Rudeboy,

Yes, I do run considerable smaller head clearance on other 2.5 cc speed engines without problems - using FAI fuel.

I recommend 0.35 mm head clearance for the MVVS 2.5...

RE: Blizzard from Corvidae.net

Good choice, the APC 6.5x6.5 is too thick to keep up with the Graupner Speed Prop.

Yes, that’s good way to avoid remachining the exhaust liner port. To guarantee a well balanced...

RE: Blizzard from Corvidae.net

Oh, I forgot to mention that any plastic spinner can be very dangerous at rpms exceeding 18 thousand. Highly recommended are precision CNC machined aluminum spinners by Truturn.com (can be ordered...

RE: Blizzard from Corvidae.net

Hello j0rrit,

throw that stinkin' Master Airscrew into the bin and get you a black Graupner Speed Prop 6.5x6.5 ;) To be then shortened to 5.5" in
diameter.

That makes this little MVVS...

RE: Fastest glow Powered Prop Plane?

Fuse length is 125 cm.

You don’t need more info, don’t you?

As for the design, don’t make a simple knock-off cause there’s definitely room for aerodynamic improvement. [sm=cool.gif]...

RE: Fastest glow Powered Prop Plane?

Hello cobratraxxas69,

so far the MB 40 site was located here:

http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~fiorimet/Index.htm

Currently their homepage seems to be down. Rob Metkemeijer himself does sell...

RE: Fastest glow Powered Prop Plane?

So you want to try exactly that in future?

Well, Mr. "King" and most other speed freaks did another approach. They took their 10 cc engine + pipe and designed a fuselage around them -...

RE: Fastest glow Powered Prop Plane?

Hello crasharama,

well there are three speed classes to compete within the German Speed Cup:

class 1: -3.5 cc
class 2: 3.51 to 6.6 cc
class 3: 6.61 to 15.00 cc including electric...

RE: Fastest glow Powered Prop Plane?

Hello,

the 250 mph "barrier" has already been broken using a glow powered prop plane. That took place in the 90s here in Germany within the objective 150 meters speed trap eliminating wind...

Ditto. Silver solder is a must.

Also please switch to M2.5 or better M3 thread size.

RE: Stiletto from Corvidae.net

Well, shall I be honest?

During the next Speed Cup (which I strongly recommend to attend) you’ll recognize that about 80% of the participants competing in the class of 10 to 15 ccm will use...

RE: Stiletto from Corvidae.net

Well, this would not be the first time watching too optimistic speed claims (often made by the manufacturer) in R/C speed dedicated forums. Some might lively do remember that Jetenspeedmodels Stinger...

RE: Stiletto from Corvidae.net

Hello j0rrit,

that is a nice "mixed" speed plane. But do you think your speed claim (factoring out massive downwind) is realistic with your actual power/prop setup? You need considerable more...

RE: My new speed plane

Hello Brecht,

the Speed Cobra will be faster with a 9x10 than with an 8x12 sized prop.

RE: My new speed plane

Hello,

the ole Speed Cobra is definitely a “beginners” speed plane, very easy to fly and to land. The construction was made in the 70’s here in Germany. Very wide fuselage, much too fat...

RE: 250 mph speed! - German SPEEDCUP 2006 scheduled Sept 15th 16th 17th

Hi,

I just would like to correct some misunderstanding. Diving is allowed as long as it does not violate the FAI rules.

Fact is: You must perform a full 300 m horizontal level flight,...

RE: SPEED DELTA - good or ...?

Please don't underestimate these >200 mph speeds. You need more than contacts and sunglasses. Have you ever experienced these speeds before with less than 1 m wing span?

Sorry to again...

RE: SPEED DELTA - good or ...?

ptulmer, I am already doing serious speed. 200 mph with 2.5 cc power does speak for itself I presume. :)

Well, regarding the best "strategy" for most speed: I just do follow those methods...

RE: SPEED DELTA - good or ...?

Right – that applies to all planes. Especially for pylon racing a very lightweight plane (within the regulations) does have advantages. Horizontal accelleration is important here.

But not for...

RE: SPEED DELTA - good or ...?

Yes weight is directly connected to induced drag. But while flying horizontally in a 200 m speed trap in both directions after a powerdive - which is THE method to measure speed objectively –...

RE: wild hare, LR-1 pylon racer

@rmenke

Do you mix up the electrified LL Lyle Larson Vendetta Q40 and the smaller (and slower) Wild Hare LR-1 pylon racer ?

BTW - the LR-1 being identical to the Graupner “Speed Cat”...

RE: SPEED DELTA - good or ...?

Yes that’s true,

the larger the angle of deviation from zero (= 150 meter horizontal flight path between gate 1 and 2) the slower the resulting speed from reality.

What I missed to write...
