To pump, or not to pump

The need for a pump will depend on your tank location and the type of flying you do. If you mount the tank right behind the firewall, and on centerline with the carburetor spray-bar, you should be...

With the pump

Do this procedure with the Pump or Cline installed and working. You want to setup your engine under actual operating conditions.

Sputtery transition

If you have a pump or Cline system on the engine, (and it is working properly) fuel delivery should be consistent independent of Muffler pressure.
First, open up the muffler and let the engine...

Cold Weather Blues

Want to aggravate the cold weather start ? Mount your engine inverted. :D It's a real problem to get the fuel up into the crankcase and atomized for starting. I have to flip the plane upside down...

Mejzlik vrs APC vrs Zinger pro

It was Cold around Atlanta on Sunday (41 F) but I got out to fly anyway.

I did in Flight comparisons with the Mejzlik 18x6, APC 18x6W, and Pro Zinger 18x6. All on my OS 1.60 FX / Lanier Edge 540T...

Props

MHawker,
I feel pretty sure leaning the low end will put you flying the way you want to. Glad you discovered the loose pins. That could have been real bad.
I will be interested to see the...

Getting stronger

Put three more flights on my Lanier Edge / OS 1.60 yesterday. I have now burned about 3 1/2 gallons of Cool Power 15%. Yesterday I was getting 8750 - 8800 RPM with the Pro Zinger 18x6. (up from 8600)...

Bad transition

MHawker

I also had bad transition. And mine would load up in midrange in the air, although it ran fine on the ground. The KEY to solving this problem is LEAN low speed needle. See my reply to...

Transition

monkeyhead,

You HAVE to LEAN the low speed needle. VERY lean. Lean it out until the engine will not hold an idle, it should speed up then die. After each adjustment, re-tune the high speed needle....

Don'ty blame the Fuel

I will NOT get into a debate about this, it has been discussed exhaustively elsewhere on RCU. NEVER has a definitive answer been agreed on, and NEVER will be. ;)
However, I just can't resist...

Sounds strange, doen't it

krs
Just as you are, I was uncomfortable with placing the regulator between the needle and carb. But at Bill's insistence, I mounted it that way. IT WORKS :D . Here is a little better explanation...

Weight, Thrust, and what's happening???

The way I see it................

I strongly suspect your buddy's scale is off. I can't imagine a H9 Edge at 10.5 lbs!! I suggest you check the scale with a KNOWN weight.
Also, hooking to...

I ran some more fuel through the 160 today. I now have burned six 14 oz tanks.

For the last tank I removed the baffle in the stock OS muffler. Evidently the 18x6W is running considerably above...
