RE: Savage reincarnation

Nice work!

Shame this forum is pretty much dead now. I guess the Savage and MTs in general just don't have the same kind of mass appeal they did back in the day. This is the first time I've been...

RE: Guess the screw game

Trick question, no M2x12mm screws are included with a stock Savage. Based on the thread pitch, that is an M2.6-0.45 x 12mm cap screw from the roto start backplate.

RE: exhaust for lrp

ERCM 221T truggy version. It's expensive, but the performance is superior to that of any conventional pipe with an abbreviated convergent cone and restrictive multi-chamber design. Makes a...

RE: Rear tie rod eliminator ideas? Have integy but too much negative camber.

Adjustable upper arms will probably be the most simple solution. I believe they are unchanged from the original pre-X design, so they should be strong. I've broken a couple at the steel turnbuckle...

RE: Back after a 10 year nap

Unfortunately you're not going to find many hobby shops up here in northern BC. There's on in Terrace (Creative Zone, probably who you've been dealing with), one in Prince George, and one up in Fort...

RE: D8T

Engine, pipe/header, radio and receiver, receiver battery, throttle and steering servos, tires (It comes with wheels), fuel, glow plug heater, tire glue, and paint for the body. You'll also want to...

RE: need good HT servo

http://www.hobbypartz.com/33p-solarservo-d772.html

I have one of these, and while the rating on the site is somewhat inflated, it still outputs ~300oz-in at 7.4V.

RE: savage top speed?

If an engine makes useable power at 40k RPM, it can be geared lower to take advantage of the 20-30k RPM peak and gain a large amount of acceleration while sacrificing some top speed. This is...

RE: Question for the Experts...

Very general numbers:

Exhaust: 85-90° ATDC opening (170-180° duration)
Transfer/Boost: 63-64° ATDC opening (126-128° duration)
Crank Induction: 30-40° ABDC opening, 60-70° ATDC closing...

RE: How many gallons of nitro do you burn in a season ?

Roughly 10 gallons over the past 4 years. Would be more if I didn't have to pay over $40/gallon to get the stuff.

I bash exclusively, as there is no organized racing in my area.

RE: Picco 28 Speed Runs

In stock form the crankshaft opened at 46°ABDC, which IMO is very conservative for this engine. I set it to open at 35°ABDC, as this number is much closer to the range of figures I've uncovered in...

Just testing out some timing modifications and a new ERCM end bleed pipe.

RE: Best engine

That's interesting, because I see 3 videos of a clocked Nova 28-7 powered Savage in this thread alone.

RE: MGT vs Aftershock

The Aftershock is very similar to the original LST1, which was notoriously fragile and poorly designed, so I'd definitely avoid it. The MGT is likely a better bet, but you should probably expand your...

RE: What would it take???

Hybrid rocket engines are easily throttleable simply by controlling the flow rate of the oxidizer into the combustion chamber. The setup I proposed is much more sophisticated than you assume and...

RE: What would it take???

A small N2O/paraffin hybrid rocket engine could be built for well under a grand and would probably push a Baja to over 100mph if properly designed. Exactly how ambitious are you feeling?

RE: Any ideas for alternative rc car cleaner?

Non-chlorinated brake cleaner works well. The stuff I use is primarily a mixture of hexane and isopropanol, and it's an excellent, fast evaporating degreaser.

RE: Savage XL problem- Rear diff?

Sounds like you damaged the spider gears inside the diff assembly. The only way to verify the problem is to disassemble it and take a look.

Engineering 101: Minimize the costs that go into designing and producing moulds for the plastic components of a product range, and you will save money and greatly increase profit margins.

Hopefully HPI discontinues it and goes back to producing nitro Savages full time.

RE: losi ht pipe on a picco .28 ?

I ran a Losi HT pipe for about a month this summer, and I found that it had good low end and mid range performance, but couldn't touch the 086 in the upper portion of the RPM range.

It wouldn't...
