if you're just starting out, I would recommend a good simulator and an mcx2. You will get bored of the mcx2 pretty fast. so if you can hover on the sim, then maybe get an MSR and learn to hover in...

even better, anyone can probably find a similar setup, that's why i updated - so if anyone were to be in my shoes, they would know about this. used dx7 (~$180), ar6100 (~$30), lipos and case.

I ended up getting the SPORT super combo. $400 shipped to my door via ebay (good-dealz) and ebay's bing/live cashback program. I got a used dx7/rx/case/lipos for ~$350 so...

I think a clone like the exi450 is a fine choice as long as you have good electronics backing it up. And a good simulator is almost a must. It'll help your reflexes tremendously and with orientation.

I ended up going with a trex 450 b/c a BLADE 400 may be cheaper initially but will need upgraded servos and gyro...

V2 has an upgraded head compared to V1. V3's head is yet another upgrade from the V2 giving the heli more stability - some claim it flies more like a 500. V3 SPORT has a belt and is supposedly easier...
