Have you performed the "Chinese engine reed block fix", i.e. lightly sanding the mating surfaces of the reed block? That would be the first thing I would try. It's a very simple procedure.

FWIW, I just maidened my 88" Aerobeez Slick 540 last weekend and I'm impressed with how it flew. Unfortunately, I had a slightly twitchy servo on one of the ailerons, so I had to ground the plane...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Just when my PTE36 had started running great (after changing the Hall sensor), I blew a seal. At least that's what I think happened. It lost power and eventually died and there's evidence of a...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Fired it up with a borrowed Hall sensor and it runs perfectly! I think all my troubles may have been due to a $5 part...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

My problems may actually be related to the Hall sensor. I unplugged the Hall sensor and grounded the white signal wire. Spark every time. Connected it back to the Hall sensor and cranked the engine....

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Yes I did the ignition test. It's got good spark and sparks with a screwdriver in the cap. Nice long sparks.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

The screen that's covered by the pump diaphragm? I tried, but it didn't respond to a light tug and I didn't dare pulling harder. It should come out easily? I did hit it with some canned compressed...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

OK, I took it apart. Here's my report:

* Lots of oil and gas on the outside of the carb. Also lots of gas and oil on the firewall just behind the carb. Could be evidence of leaks.
* No obvious...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

I managed to start it (after MANY flips). Also checked the ignition, including putting a screwdriver in the cap. I definitely have a good spark. Here's a video of my test run. I'm trying half and...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Something strange happened to my PTE36R today. I was flying around having fun as usual when the engine started sputtering and losing power. I figured better safe than sorry and immediately landed...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Yes sir! Highly recommended, by the way! Does both 3D and big beautiful patterns like a champ. Makes me look like I know what I'm doing! :) Probably the easiest flying airplane I've ever flown.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Mine keeps putting big smiles on my face! As it breaks in, it keeps getting better. The power is amazing! It sends my 72" Extra out of sight vertically in a few seconds. It's starting to feel a...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Honestly, I don't count the flips. Maybe it's a bit less than 10. It's more than one at least. :)<div>

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Same experience here! The engine MTK helped me tune is turning into a real powerhouse after some 10 flights. Initially I had some issues getting it to idle reliably, but a touch richer in the low end...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

I maidened my PTE36R in a 3DHobbyShop 72" Extra today. Everything went great! It's definitely running a little rich, but that's intentional. Had one situation where throttle response was a bit...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Huge thanks to Matt for helping me!

It turned out the engine just needed some tuning and attention from experienced hands. It runs great now!

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

Another thing: There's some evidence of oil and fuel on the engine block right below the reed block. *Sigh* I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do surgery on the engine.

Oh well... First step...

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?

My PTE36R is driving me a little crazy. This is my first gasser, so I'm probably doing something stupid.

Basically, I'm trying to tune it, but I want to avoid messing with the screws while the...
