RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
The RCV58 will power it with no problems - I rarely open up the 91 except when I have a go at prop hanging and doing long inverted circuits.
I covered mine in a mixture of profilm and solar-film (bad choice as the profilm doesn't stick to solar-film very well, and the solar-film is wrinkling after a few years of oil soaking). Solar-tex is a good choice- make sure its well fuel-proofed as 'Pokes puke oil all over the wing and everywhere else due to the high exhaust.
Pokes are very forgiving to fly and the worst they will do is to dip their noses on a stall - never seen a tip-stall or a spin (no matter how hard I've tried).
Flying inverted can be a challenge if you don't have enough speed, and knife-edge also needs a fair turn of speed and a lot of aileron mixing.

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
Thanks Slick,
I'm O.K. with the build, I just hope I can improve my flying skills or I'll need another kit from across the pond!
I should be starting it in the next couple of weeks and I'll post some pictures when I've made some progress.

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
Slick,
It looks like we had some similar paint schemes in mind. I completed a new build of a Slowpoke 10 with several mods with a SNJ scheme. Attached are some pics.
Wings were built using the .40 version with a constant chord but scaled down to the .10 size. Ailerons were added and the servos were built internally so they don't show. A heavy duty landing gear set with oversized wheels for rough grass landings was also added at a weight cost.
52 " wingspan overall.
The fuselage was extended an 1 inch forward of the wing line leading edge to compensate for the chronic tail heavyness mentioned in many forums and reviews of the kit.
I converted it to E-Power and the cowl was extended to cover the motor to make the nose cowl more appealing and a Sullivan tail wheel was used instead of the supplied one (I felt it put too much strain on the rudder). A battery hatch and nose cowl were all attached using rare earth magnets. Super strong, light and only 1/8 x 1/16 inches.
Atlas 2921/10 electric motor swinging a 11x5.5 prop with an 80 amp ESC (I know its oversized...) A big 4000 mah 14.8V battery completes it with 15 to 20 minute flight times. With the light wing loading, it can easily handle the extra weight. Enough power to virtually go vertical if I wanted to, yet it is nice to pull back on the throttle and cruise the pattern with a fly-by.
If anyone is looking to do a Slowpoke conversion, I'm happy to help with any build questions. I have plenty of build photos.
Cheers,
Jason

Hi Poke Fans
You may wish to look at this thread under kit building forum, "Allow to be presented - Big Bee..." The plane seems to be a very nice big version of a Slo Poke using a small gas engine, maybe a Zenoah 26ei. Looks like a very nice laser cut kit.
Best Regards

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
HI
I just bought my first Poke Sport 40. I would like to add ailerons to it. Can anyone tell me how they did it and what problems, solutions they came up with?
Mine is actually Pearl white with HOt Pink Striping ( LOL ) and a large Ford circle on each side. Im going E power with her.
ED
I have included a pic of a Balsa usa Tempo I converted to Electric, sort of a modified Pete & Poke near as I can tell.

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
ED,
I thought the Poke .40 already had ailerons or is this a different version? I built a Slowpoke .10 wing like a .40 Poke. See my post above of the Poke with the AT-6 scheme. I'll post building pics below. The building process is the same as the .40 excepton a smaller scale. I downloaded the .40 size Poke manual and blueprints from online and looked at them, and built according to the manual. I used the last four full wing ribs. The two outer ones were left whole and the inner ones were cut with the aft side where the longitudinal stringers were. I filled in-between the stringers with balsa so I had a place to mount the hinges. I used the cut off pieces of wing rib and made a few more to make the ailerons. Essentially, they are the wing ribs ends glued to a stick of balsa and covered with 1/16" sheet.
The dimensions of the ailerons are approximately 11.5" X 2.5" Of course, your's may be a little different size because you will be building a full .40 size.
As far as performance, it flies great. Greatroll rate. I made several other mods that I won't get into here unless yo want to know.

Hers's my old one with a OS 48. I moved the battery to the forward end of the tank compartment and removed the weight from the front of the engine

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
bbtljj,
Do you have the .40 size or .25 size? I have a .25 size that I have rebuilt like the .40(pictures above in the thread). It has ailerons and I rebuild the front fuse to hide the motor and provide easy acess to the electronics and battery. It is much heavier than the spec weight. Specs say 3.5 lbs but I 've had it up to 5.5 and it still fliies great. You can get away with it because of the low wingloading (huge wing).
Mine has an Atlas 2921/10 outrunner motor and it turns a 11x5.5 prop. I really don't pay much attention to the Kv rating except a lower Kv rating will swing slower with torque for a bigger prop. The Amp, Voltsand Wattage with a given prop is more important (IMHO). Use a Watt meter. With my setup and a 14.8 Lipo 4000mah battery Ipull about 700-750 Watts. I average about 150 Watts per pound which gives you good performance. Remember, Volts x Amps = Watts. So a motor that pulls 45 amp (avg) x 15V avg voltage = 675Watts. Divide that by your A/C weight and it should give you a good idea of performance watts per pound. 100=trainer 150=sport 200=3D roughly.
In addition, I get about 12-14 minutes of flight time. With the extra power I can get out of a bad situation (saved my plane many times) but I can throttle back and stay airbornefor a long time. Of course weight is always a consideration.
Since the plane is not build for electric conversion (last I checked), you need to modify the front Fuselage. You can enclose the front (which I prefer) or you can cut down the mount rails where the glow motor mounts and install the motor on the firewall with some kind of standoffs for clearance. You will also probably want to cut and install a hatch to get at your battery for ease of operation.
Don't forget that this plane is notoriously tail heavy so the further forward you mount the motor and battery the better. I actually extended the fuse an inch forward to compensate and it worked out great.
Hope all this helps, didn't mean todump too much info.

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
HI Guys,
I have built two Slow Pokes over the years, one a standard build, the other as a "V" tail. Both fly very well, with one powered with a Fox .50 and the other a K&B .45 Sporster. My Fox .50 powered model, I installed a fire wall and mounted a DuBro vibration mount. Both airframes had fuel tank hatches built into the bottom of the models, and both models are very sweet flyers. I built my first one at least six years ago, with my "V" tail, last year. Now none are available in kit form, or ARF. I crashed my standard tail model this year due to radio issues, and now fly just 2.4 gig Airtronics gear.
I am looking for a kit or ARF model...does anyone have one for sale...?...send me a PM.
Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
Here's my Slow Poke .15 kit coming together. I've decided on an OS 25FP engine for it. I'm thinking a 9x4 prop ought to work out nicely for the speed of this plane. It'll be built completely stock, and hopefully will be a nice lazy Sunday afternoon flyer. I have some Coverite 12st Century fabric for it, for that "classic" look.

Just curious. How does the V Tail change the flying. Does it manuver better? Also I notice double wheels on your landing gear. Is this for looks or stability?

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
I just bought a "used' SlowPoke on Craiglist but the person built it almost complete except he did not put in the control hooks for the ailerons. The plane is already covered so I am not sure how to put the control hooks in without ruining the cover on the aileron.
Any ideas? If I have to break it ill break it.
