Noobie with gyro question, logictech?
I need a better gyro I think because everytime i would climb the tail would swing right, i have a e-flite g90, i was wondering if this combo is good? im only a begginer right now.
http://www.helidirect.com/product_in...oducts_id=4545
would it work with my spektrum dx7?

RE: Noobie with gyro question, logictech?
While I do personally prefer the Futaba GY401, I have heard good things about the Logictech 2100t gyro.
However, I suspect that your problem is not a poorly behaving gyro. In a large collective maneuver like a hard climbout, you are creating large amounts of torque, and potentially bogging down the motor. With the sudden increase in torque demanding huge tail thrust, and the possible reduction in head speed lowering the tail's ability to create thrust, the tail is simply over tasked. It cannot create enough thrust, even at full deflection, to counter the torque created by the main rotor.
The best gyro in the world will not help this situation.
The common fix (barring any mechanical problems in the tail belt or linkage) is to change your throttle and pitch curves. Raise your throttle curve some, and lower your pitch curve some. That way you will hovering at a higher head speed with less pitch. Less pitch means that there is less torque for the tail to overcome. More head speed means that the tail has more RPM available to generate thrust.

i BARLY had the LHS get this thing together, brand new 1 day use. he says the gyro isnt really holding, i think the pitch is -1 to +11 last time i checked, i have no idea what the optimal setup is.

doh! i just bought a used 401 with the 9650 servo for $150 shipped, i also got 3 JR DS285 for $50 shipped. is that a good deal? Also how do i increase my head speed? i see it is at 100 percent on the THR curve.

I still think that you need to drop the pitch curve a little bit. You can try that out before the new gyro shows up. That way you are working with fewer variables at a time, and will know which change it was that corrected the behavior.

RE: Noobie with gyro question, logictech?
I have the logitech 2100t, with a 9650 on the tail and love it!
Fortunately I do not get any wag when bumping up the throttle, and agree that your throttle and pitch curves may need to be adjusted/better matched.
For example, my curves are;
low middle high
Th 0 --- 45 --- 65 --- 85 --- 100
Pi 45 --- 58 --- 70 --- 85 --- 95
I have -4 pitch at low stick, 2 at mid-stick, and 10 at high stick. As you can see I have a 5 point curve in my Futaba 6exh, not sure which transmitter you have and if you have not already check out Finless' videos over on Helifreak.com (great educational resource to learn all about helis and setting them up). You could go into your radio settings for normal Throttle and see what your settings are and bump them upward to get more headspeed. Go into the normal Pitch menu and see what your settings are at, lowering the last point will reduce pitch.
Let us know.

RE: Noobie with gyro question, logictech?
You can increase the headspeed by increasing your throttle curve points, below is a 5 point throttle curve;
Point 1 should be 0 - that is low stick
Point 2 should be around 40-60 (half-way between bottom stick and mid-stick (1/4 stick), your preference)
Point 3 should be around 65-75 (mid stick, your preference)
Point 4 should be around 80-90 (half-way between mid-stick and full-stick (3/4 stick), your preference)
Point 5 should be around 95-100 (full-stick)
Here is a visual from Notepad (attached below) (can you visualize the curve now?)
You can reduce or increase any of these points in your curve to your liking, increasing them increases motor speed which increases head speed.
If you have a 3 point curve, something like this;
Point 1 = 0
Point 2 = 70'ish
Point 3 = 95'ish
Point 1 should be 0 - that is low stick
Point 2 should be around 40-60 (half-way between bottom stick and mid-stick (1/4 stick), your preference)
Point 3 should be around 65-75 (mid stick, your preference)
Point 4 should be around 80-90 (half-way between mid-stick and full-stick (3/4 stick), your preference)

RE: Noobie with gyro question, logictech?
Ok here is my setup, the LHS did it for me when we assembled the heli.
Normal Throttle Curve
0-43-80.5-94.5-100
Normal Pitch Curve
2-INH-27.5-INH-67
Swash Mix
75% all
Pitch
-3 to +12 or 13

oh yea this is with the throttle hold button active on the dx7, i dont know if that will change the pitch or not.

RE: Noobie with gyro question, logictech?
butters, I would say you have enough headspeed and it appears that your pitch is not bad either.
The throttle hold would not affect your pitch, it simply keeps the motor from engaging if setup to do that (kind of a safety switch) or in gas heli's it is used to maintain a certain motor amount to run the heli out of fuel.

RE: Noobie with gyro question, logictech?
I am building the 450 and picked up a 401 yesterday. I asked about mounting it and i was told NOT to put it on the bottom shelf becuase the motor would cause interference. he suggested i put it behind the motor on the rear of the heli. this isnt that much further from the motor. the problem is the assembly manual says the front is fine.
I really only want to mount it once so please chime in with advice.
thanks all

If you have the 450 V2, then yes, definitely mount it to the bottom! If you have another kit, please tell us which. It is always preferrable to put an expensive gyro out of the way of moving rotor blades!

BTW, your post itle says "LogicTech" but the "401" that you mention in your POST is made by Futaba. Which one do you have?

Sorry folks. I guess i sort of hijacked the thread. Sorry thread starter.
I have the 450 sa ARF kit. i just moved to it from the Blade 400. here is my list
JR 285 servos
Futaba 95?? rudder servo. I forget the number right now but its the right one
GY401 gyro
spektrun 6100 RX DSM2
Spektrum DX6i from the blade.
Thanks all
