What should I do, buy or rebuild?
I built this .60 size Stik. I left it on the floor out of the way. On the day I came home to fly it I found it in the condition shown in the pics. My dog, I think she was trying to get at a cat thru the window (stupid as it seems), apparently jumped on it. So, I am trying to decide if I should buy a new plane or try to rebuild this one. It is really my desire to rebuild and fly this one since I never got to fly it. I know it can be rebuilt, so I am looking for guidance. Any assistance or ideas on rebuiliding given will be much appreciated.

Well first thing that Super Stick was discontinued two years ago and you will have a hard time finding parts for it. Shame as it was one of many great flying Stiks discontinued by Horizon.
The second thing as mentioned by the others, it's not bad. The horiz stab looks like a clean break. The vertical stab may have the lower part broken off inside the horiz stab but again that's not bad. First glue the horiz stab back in place on the fuse keeping it properly aligned and level to the fuse. Then glue the vertical stab back in place right onto the broken part in the horiz stab again keeping it plumb.
Then get some triangle stock in a width that will extend up the vertical stab past the break and across the horiz stab and cut two pieces long enough span the vert stab length . You can cover the exposed pieces in ultra/mono-coat then glue the pieces in place or just glue them in and paint them white, You can also cut two additional pieces and install them below the horiz stab to the fuse. These pieces will reinforce the stabs. Then install the elevator surface with new hinges.
Done !

I will post more pics as I go step by step.Oh and if there are rough spots, pot holes.divots, in the balsa after repair get a small container of lightweight spackling compound , fill in the dents and sand smooth . Then you can cover the sins with a piece of coating or paint it.

I would rebuild. In fact, the last time I flew (a couple weeks ago), I was unloading my Stik from the car when my neighbor walked over and started talking to me. I was distracted and hit the tail hard on the car door breaking it off completely. Not a difficult fix but really annoying. I will fix it though. It's too good of a plane not to.

djsqueeze, I hope you got my "tongue in cheek reply" ("Buy a new one, and let me have the old one"). Repairing this plane should be a no brainer. If you are an ARFer only, then these kinds of repairs are a good learning experience. A little wood cutting, a little glueing, and a little covering. You'll be glad you fixed it. Enjoy

Not a rebuild. It is a minor repair. I have rebuilt a lot worse. should only take a couple hours. Better make sure the hinges are glued in better than they were and check all the hinges on the other surfaces as well.

Cat fishing, large multi hooked contraption, thrown towards a stack of garbage cans, wait for the MEOW and pull. Ahh the good ole days you could make a joke with out being tared and feathered then run out on a rail.
Rebuild it. I have done field repairs worse then that.
I was camping for 4 days. I had a 40 sized stick charging on top of my engine with the hood up. Wind picked the hood up and it fell off the little holder. Hood slammed down crushing the fuse. An hour and a half later, I was in the air. She may not have been pretty , but she flew a lot in those 4 days.
Buzz.

, I got the joke. And for all who say it is a repair vs a rebuild, you are probably correct. I am working on it now. Taking off the glue and wood on the vert. stab 1st., then I will clean up the horiz stab and put together some triangle stock in prepping to glue the horiz stab. in the morning.

Yeeep! My vote is fix her up. Don't forget to check the center of gravity once you've added repairs to the tail...
I came home one day to find my wing rack had "collapsed" and I was thinking "what the heck!". After a little more investigation it turns out the neighbor's cat got locked in the garage and tried to escape through the window via the "wing ladder" Oh well, it happens. I'm pretty sure my troubles are over for the rest of the year!

Used 60C grit to remove the excess glue from the vertical stab. Found it was a clean break on the elevator because the hinges were only glued on one side.
