No that's for a hobby grade rc. you need to find one that's a 27 mhz from the same type of truck if you can. some controllers from different rc's may work if they are 27mhz but maybe issues.

i don't think you can't mix hobby grade with toy grade electronics. well maybe but that might be more trouble than it's worth and still might not work right. the only way i've seen is to get the receiver that goes with the transmitter but then you will need to fit a servo for the steering. that's the hard part because you need to fit a servo in the rc in a spot that will control the steering properly. a lot of cutting and modding.

That radio comes with the receiver and 2 servos.

I got the truck free I am a big mustang and f150 enthusiast. My kids are both in Law enforcement. I am going to add flashing police lights and am hoping to use a 4 channel controller to save from using separate controllers. I have not opened it up to see what it has yet.

Yeah that is a good thread to see it can be done. i'm not saying it can't be done it's just not plug and play. you will have to do some modding and maybe even make some of your own parts like brackets.
now on to power. with the addition of lights you will need to have a better battery than comes stock. after adding a better battery you may find your self burning up the motor and if the motor don't go bad the next problem may come from the gears. they are made of plastic and the heat from the motor using a better battery might melt the gears or the extra power from the battery might strip the gears.
with all that said if you want to do it go for it. i have done a few things to some toy grade rc's that turned out well and some that went bad. one caught on fire even.
if you do post up pic's. i'll help out any way i can i like to dive into things to change and modify them. so ask questions if you got them.

The extra lighting will run it's own power source. The stock battery was 7.2v 750ma. I ordered a 7.2v 3000ma battery with charger. If I decide to upgrade to Futaba radio there is lots of room. It has a servo that looks close to a hobby. One interesting thing is it is only 2 wheel drive but has the housing for a front wheel motor and trans. If I decide to venture farther with it. I will be posting pics as I go when I start building this. I am a machinist by trade. So if mood arises I could build a custom chaises and go all out down the road.

if you go hobby grade you will need to get a ESC as well. then you can use a bigger battery and run there also.
so yes do it and post some pic's to.

The plan is to get it running as is for now. Then start gathering parts for the up grade. I am trying to find out if they made a 4wd version of this chassis as it is made for it. It's hard to find info on these old Nikko's.

i looked around for some 4x4 version but don't think they made one. maybe they used the some part to save money. sometimes that happens.

Looks like it would be a lot of work to go 4 wheel drive with it.
before you go with the hobby upgrades add up the cost of what you need. might be able to get a starter crawler.
but if you do start remember you need all of that stuff stated above to get working correctly. the cheapest route would to find the controller for the same rc some place. maybe a yard sale, or consignment store.

that looks like a good place to start. i think that is a tranny not a diff but there is a chance it might work for the front diff. now you need some universals for the wheels and a way to get them working with the stock steering knuckles.
i was wrong it is a diff not a tranny.

I am a machinist. and have a lathe and mill in my home shop. steering wont be a problem.

Here is another pic. Nikk0 must have made a 4x4 with this chases at some point. Nikko thor or Radio Shack Extreme Machine used the same front diff

That would be great to find the parts to set it up 4x4. now that i see the front has a spot for a motor i agree they must have made some 4x4 ones. a MOA nikko 4 wheel drive sounds cool to me.

How can I determine if this truck is 1/6 scale or 1/8? I see it listed as both on eBay

1/8 wheelbase should be around 13 inches or so. 1/6 would be like 18 maybe a little more. measured from wheel center front to wheel center rear.

Center to center is 15 1/2" over all length is 27"
