Diablokid:

Can't get Saito 30 4 strokes here anymore..if you lived overseas, like Europe you could get them there..only 30 4-strokes available here are Magnums..this C-130 dosen't have flaps...would be nice to have them..shore would help...I have a Quality Fibereglass C-130 and it's going to weight 25 + Ibs...Going to install OS 40-4 strokes....have to order new cowls and reset the engines... also put everything back in it that was taken out of it...has retracts, 3-sectional flaps, and the cargo door opens on the back of the plane...will paint it this coming spring...The C-130 from Hobby People looks interesting, but will finish the one up I started ( QF),3 yrs. ago....back to the work bench.................

How about RCV rotary cylinder engines for the C-130?? Probably not. Smallest RCV I believe is a 60.

which engines are you running? Seems some 25fx's might do the trick
I am flying 4 saito' .30's with MAS 10x6 Props using cool power 15% fuel. Engines turn 10,200 rpm then richen to about 10,100. Plane flies well takes off on grass at a weight of 21.5#'s I use full flaps for take off and 1/2 flaps for landing. The full flaps make the take off in grass easier. I don't have retracts on the mains but do see that HP offer a retract for the ARF Herk. I will look into those. WARNING.. losing an engine especially the outboard is a REALLY big deal. Don't underestimate the need for reliable operation. I did have one engine repaired under warranty that quit 3 times in flight on the #4 position and the plane will do a immediate death spiral if you aren't on top of flying. This is an IMPORTANT TIP for flying this bird. MIX AILERON to RUDDER so that at full aileron you have about 1" of rudder throw. This really helps if an engine quits. Hopefully the ARF will be lighter, mine is Fiberglas fuse with crutches internal and foam core balsa/ .04 oz glass coated. Nacells are fiberglas also. Jim

Wing and tailplane both split into 2 parts and have tube spars.

Heck guys I ate too much Turkey Bird. I became delirious and pre ordered the Herky Bird and gear last week.....can't wait. Twenty five flights on the C-160. I pulled everything out of her ( groan ) and am waiting for the C-130. Now I only Have to buy two more motors and systems. !QUOT! birp !QUOT! excuse me. I also pre ordered the Spectrum DX-7 Radio sys. to put in the 130. Now I will be sleepin' in tha shop cause I don't have any funds left for the wife's Christmas gift. Oh well, at least I have the right priorities.

Alan

I understand it doesn't have flaps--how easy would you say it would be to cut, spar, and hinge them in?

What engines are you using? I want to use Saito .40s but Horizon Hobby don't carry them. I may try RCV's .52s if they will fit, but more than likely they will be OS .40s.

Your comments are welcomed...

Thanks...

Mr DJ

I would never cut a spar on this bird. I built my herk with a foam core wing. The flaps are attached with CA hinges to the wood sheeting. No issues after 35 flights. However,, too much flap will make the bird sink like a rock and land hard much like a high drag bipe with power off. Jim

It has flaps and flys great with them. You do have to land with throttle on though as it just stops inflight otherwise.

I have no experience with twins but this bird is so awsome I may have to get it. If 3 engines flame out, are you SOL? I plan to use electric. DP

I think it would just about fly on 2 (I mean only just). So if you lose an outer you simply shut the matching motor and fly a gentle decending curcuit back in to land. My dad has had a engine out on it but I haven't myself. I don't think it would be major hastle just as long as you know what to do. This is why I will always run 2 throttles on a 4 engine aircraft. Inners as normal and outers as a slider switch.

What does SOL mean?

Alan--are the flaps split equaling 4 or just 2 long/short flaps?

My bird is supposed to be here by 15 Jan--don't think that's gonna happen, but I guess I'm in no rush since I just, as in just opened the 7.5' box and took out my Yellow Aircraft F-15 ARF [link=http://www.yellowaircraft.com/jets/f15.htm] Yellow Aircraft[/link]. It is freakin' awesome--expecting my 36lbs thrust SimJet turbine engine by Saturday [link=http://www.simjet.com/C1256F6600773F26/getPopup/00C25970BCE7457AC1256F6A0033D0AA?open]SimJet[/link]. I would like to have it ready to go by April but probably won't be 'til June or so.

I also have a Composite ARF giant a** Gee Bee with a DA 150 on its way [link=http://www.composite-arf.com.hk/] Comosite-ARF.com[/link]

Sorry to get off the subject--not I still can't wait to get my C-130.

Later...

Two long flaps; yes sir, it does.

Where is the location of servos, please?

And most curious, what size 4-strokes are you using? I know .30s will fit but just by comparing the measurements of OS’s .30 and .40, I’m thinking the .40s will fit. You’re opinion, please.

Many thanks…

Mr DJ
