I plan to setup my gear doors like what you have done and am in the process of gathering parts. However I am going to use the Robart offset hinges on the mains and the SonicTronic hinges on part of the nose door. Question I’m having difficulty finding the Aerotech hinge that you used on the ”front nose wheel” door, do you have a web link for this vendor?
Also has anyone used the Robart gear door sequencer before? I’m just looking for some feedback on this product.
Thanks

It's a simple metal hinge about 3/4" long. It is tight and doesn't vibrate. I get them from Aerotech www.aerotechmodels.com. It's not shown on his website, but if you call him, I think he will know what you mean. Let me know if you need any better info or pictures of the gear door process.

Hey guys my robart Ts are leaking and now I can't find the McMaster-Carr website. I got the part number from previous posts, but not the site. Can someone post a link. Thanks.

I put a set pf Robarts in my new Cox Duellist and the tees leaked like crazy.
Replaced with the McMaster-Carr tees and it'll hold 100# indefinitely.
The questions is why is Robart supplying these inferior tees?

Thats a good question, you expect the best from robart, especially at the prices we pay. Here is the part number for the Ts for anyone who missed it 5463K431.

Robart has brass T's pn. 225. On the nose gear door you might try a large Du-bro hinge, that should work. I ran the motors today here are the stats for the Rimfire outrunners: Full throttle 10,400 RPM 11 lbs of thrust per side,22 lbs thrust total, pulling a whopping 81 AMPS!! 1600 Watts The 310 wts.# 23 1/2 lbs..

Very nice TSC, she really looks great, I really like that fender on the nosewheel! When are you going to maiden her? Good luck and don't forget to give us all the scoop on how it went! BTW those are pretty decent RPMs, what size 3-blades are you using?

I'm going to set up my nose gear door like the diagram in Dave's post no. 1239. It calls for 4 pieces of 1/8 lite ply per side. My question, and it's out of ignorance, is why does it take 4 pieces? That's 1/2 inch thickness - seems like overkill. I'm a novice when it comes to nose doors so I'm just trying to understand the logic.
Thanks guys for all your help.

The reason for the 4 layers is that it moves the hinge line back so the doors will clear the fuse when they are open. You could lighten this up by using spacers instead of full legnth pcs. It is made out of 1/8 lite ply. Once this assembly is put together i.e. the hinges are lined up. It is easer to install in the fuse. Most guys have problems because they try to install 1 hinge at a time and they bind up.

TSC - Excellent!!! Almost a 1 to 1 power ratio. A little painting and you'll have the Reiley Rocket version.

No! It was awesome! I had my fun with it and now I want someone else to enjoy it too.
Saturday was a georgous day, sunny and 70deg. First flight of the day, the stbd. engine was slowly loosing power and was requiring more and more rudder trim until... the engine quit. After a very safe and sucessful single engine landing we discovered the glow plug had come loose in flight and fallen out. I put in a couple of new glow plugs and viola!! Runs and flys like a champ and sounds soooo good on the fly-by pass down the air field! If all you guys who think it's too heavy, I can tell you for sure it has more than enough power at 1/2 throttle and is very, very stable and slows nicely for landing even with flaps up!
But now it's time to move on to a diffrent project. I have a small hanger and too many large airplanes in it.

Here's an add on to TSP's response. The secret is to get all three hinges on the same pivot line and positioned in the right spot for a door swing that clears the fuselage coutour. The photos below show the slots cut in the fuselage surface for the hinges. The two end hinges sit with their outer surface just flush with the outside surface of the fuselage. The center hinge is about 1/8" below the outside surface of the fuselage. The drawing in post 1239 shows the exact position of the hinge pivot with respect to the fuselage surface.
The hjinge frame made from the plywood pieces lets you keep the singes aligned with each other and allows you to position them properly for glueing. It's hard to access the back of the fuselage at this point so the frame makes it easier.
In addition note that the frame shown below has a 7 degree bevel sanded on the inboard i/8" piece to tip the hinge enough so the door side of the hinge is low enough to get under the door surface. You may still have to grind a slight depression in the door inner surface to clear the pads on the hinge.

Thanks ACP engineering
Yes I did mix ele to flaps. I have a Spektrum Radio and can use 3 position flaps 10-15* flaps= 1/8 down elev . 30-40* flaps = additional 1/8 down elev... total 1/4 down elevator trim.
Use caution as therer are other factors invoved here like incedence, balance and wind conditions to name a few.

fgpierce,
Yeah I'm running a DX7 Spektrum Radio on this plane as well. I know what you mean about setting up flaps. Say where did you put your switch and charge jack on the C310? I'm at that point of the assembly.

Yes, and a very bumpy one at that. I disassembled the gear to paint them. While the paint was drying, I cut off 2 coils and reground the flat end to "soften" up the suspension. It worked well. It's hard to tell if it bottomed out on landing, but judging by the greasy rub mark on the strut, I would say "no" It didn't bottom out.
I hope this helps.

Did you ever get the 82's running this weekend? I was just woundering how you came out on the fuel. I am still not sure which way I want to go on the engines. Looking at most of this thread alot of the 310's are going with the 50's, which I think is plenty of power. But again the 4 stroke gives you even more power.

How do you like the new DX7? I am thinking about buying this same radio. Now I have all my big planes on my JR 8103 and I need another radio. But no one at are flying field has bought one yet so I guess I will be one to try it out. Can you still use all the JR and HiTech servos with this radio??

I have not flown the DX7 radio yet but I have flown the DX6 on electric airplanes "for one year". If the DX7 is anything like the DX6 you will be able to fly just like 72mHz and use any servos. I have a mix of Hi tech and JR on the C310.
