hi Guys:

Ok, so good news and bad news..... the new wing panels for the new B-25's won't fit the exhisting B-25s because the wing tube location may be moved and the angle of both root ribs may be different than the one's out there today. The new tubes we will provide will not in anyway need bending to make things fit perfectly. There will be a two part tube sytem sliding into the exhisting holes. If anything this area will now be stronger as there will be additional glass tubes inserted (and epoxied) into each other. With regards to the very small gap the bottom of the wing (resulting from the change in angle) I am recomending adding some microballons to the epoxy and I will provide all our customers at our expense with matching paint and the area will be absolutely unnoticeable. Sounds Good so Far!

So will we have to epoxy the entire wing together? Can we still use some hard wood and some screws in the tube if we want to separate the outer wing panels for transport?

Will the wing be scale or will it still have a slight droop? How many degrees?

Andrew,

What are the chances we can get the entire wing section from the corrected (future) B25's. Will they fit the same fuselage? I've got two of them!

Hey 757,
From what I understand the wing will still separate as before.
The epoxy & microballoons will be used to fill the gaps.
Did you check the website to see if they've posted the instructions? I haven't....

I've looked for the instructions but have found none on the KMP site. The repairs sound reasonable to me but I do hope all the wing droop is taken out by this modification. Are we supposed to call for the fix or will they send to everyone who has one of these already?

I would e-mail KMP your personal info since they can't POSSIBLY know who has one and where they are.
The sooner the better so you'll get in on the first shipment!
Personally, it shouldn't be a bad fix at all, since you'll just have to fill the gap and touch up the paint. Coulda been a LOT worse!
I know - - it should have needed to be fixed......
Makes one wonder which set of 3-views are used for the design phase of some of these ARF's, eh?????

Then sent me the missing wood joiner for the nacelle/wing center without me having to ask so I imagine they know. I suppose I'll just give them a call to be on the safe side and get my repair parts on order for sure.

That's true - they know where you live!!!!
I bought mine from NEMESIS4U so I make SURE they have all the data they need so there is no shortage of communication.
I'd remind them anyway.... never hurts to drop a line.

If you draw a vertical line on the center front view of the fuselage and cross it at 90 degrees to each wing tip you will have the correct position of the bottom of the outboard wings. The top of the wings looking from the front, taper from outboard of each nacelle to the tips giving the allusion of having a slight amount of droop . This was taken from the Pacific Prowler B-25.

F82Fan - Did you ever get the wing spars? Oh %$#! I knew I forgot something!

Seriously, If we could get matching paint from Nemesis4U or AKondor, it would be greatly appreciated.

Time to get this bird in the air!

Question?

As a rookie I have no idea what or how micorballoons (epoxy?) is used for filling gaps?

Any pictures?

PA757,

Microballoons are a filler that you use to thicken epoxy. Another advantage is it makes epoxy easier to sand.

Tower sells it here: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=microballoons

Ok,

With the new tubing and using microballoon epoxy to fill the gap, sanding and painting, it looks like to me the outer wing panels will have to be permanently attached. Might be "Better" than using hard wood in the tubing and two screws to attach the outer wing! It's just makes transport and getting it ready to fly; attaching retract tubing, servo connectors etc. more difficult in the field and hot florida sun!

Looks like I'll need a Copilot![sm=bananahead.gif]

Hey 757...
THere are lot's of places on these forums that have gone over the use of microballoons (try a search!), but you will NOT be forced to glue the wing together.
Once you get the outer panels to fit like you want with the new joiner system, just place a layer of Saran Wrap across the face of the nacelle rib (with lot's of "extra" overlap) and tape it in place. This will keep the MB/epoxy mix from sticking to the nacelle.
Next, run a layer of quality masking tape (3M Blue is great) around the outboard wing panel at the inner rib to keep the MB/epoxy off of the wing panel. You might even use paper to mask off the entire outer panel if you are messy like me!
You will mix the MB's in with the epoxy (about 1:1 is a fine ratio) and mix the whole thing together.
Put the center section up on one end.
Slather the mixture onto the face of the root rib (keep it AWAY from the joiner!) and slide the panel down into the nacelle. As it mushes out, just scrape off the excess and wipe the area with Isopropyl Alcohol to remove the residue before things dry. Once the mixture sets up, just pull off the panel and finish sand (leave the tape on while you are sanding to prevent getting into the paint).
Should be a pretty nice seam after very little work!
Do one side at a time so the mixture stays where it should. You can use 10 or 15 minute epoxy since the areas are not structural and it will go fairly quickly.
Those MB's REALLy make the epoxy easy to sand.
Keep asking questions - that's the way we ALL learn!
Good Luck

Andrew,

Sorry, while I appreciate the efforts so far, I still consider this an unacceptable solution.

If the new wingtips won't fit correctly on my existing nacelles, THEN THE NACELLES SHOULD BE REPLACED, ALSO. Repairs, such as described above, should not be required by your customers in order to correct a known factory design or manufacturing flaw.

Like most here, I spend a significant amount of money on this hobby, and I don't take my purchase decisions lightly. This ARF is my first KMP airplane. With gear, it cost me just south of $900. We all know that number more than doubles when you add engines, servos, radios, glow system, etc. (most of which I've already bought) to the mix.

Should the above fix be the best that KMP can offer, it will definitely be my last KMP airplane.

Rip

F82FAN & Flyright!

Margarita's taste better after an hour or two of hard work in my "B25 Hanger" on a hot ~n~ humid Florida afternoon with Jimmy B music playing in the shop!

I'm going to try and make the "Monster Planes USA" event in Lake Wales, FL. on the 18th or 19th of Oct!

Rip,

I couldn't agree more. Especially if they are going to produce more B25's with the correct wing! How about making a few more for those of us that bought the prototype off the shelf?

I guess if you want to get it flying sooner than later we will have to live with the Fix! Im not too excited with the "Band Aid" approach to fixing things myself; the last thing I want to do is tear into the guts of the wing, but I guess this is modeling 2008!

It kinda reminds me of the toys I got in the 70's from China! Always something wrong or broken! Where is the Quality Control!
