RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
traxxas is crapola, trinity is good stuff duratrax isn't bad either but the trinity burns nice and clean, the duratrax is a tad oily but easier to tune with, not that the tinity is hard the duratrax is easy to get it to run well i ran it with 20% both times

RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
Are Chaos's still available??? There's probably a boatload of the to be found, either "new" or slightly used. I still see them on ebay and Craigs...Sportswerks/Horizon have officially discontinued them a long time ago, but spares and hop-ups are fairly easily found if you know where to look. If you get one, be ready to get your fingers dirty. Knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn't have gotten one, but hindsight is 20/20... as it is I still like mine with all it's shortcomings.

RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
yeah i got mine off ebay for $80, and it was worth that, it is a blast to drive but i may be getting a ZD mini soon 150 BL and lipo included, metal diffs availible...
btw i converted mine to electric A cuz i could, B cuz i wanted to do it just to say i did it, and C cuz my motor was giving me hell soo i sold the motor and put a 540 and a custom 8 cell AA pack in it, much faster, and super undeared at 22/50, but i can't find any pinons bigger that won't cost me $15
would i do it again knowing what i know, yeah, if i knew i could get metal diffs, and since roystben has his foundry up and going again they should be availible soon, or so is the hope

I've seen similiar car models but can't pin point a model. It's definitely European...my guess is it's an Alpha Romeo. Sort of looks like the logo on the front. My wife says it's a Saab. Are we close???

RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
Good guesses all...
It's a 1966 Matra Djet 5. French production car, fiberglass body, mid-engine, 4-wheel discs and 4-wheel independent suspension. VERY small car with Renault power. There were various versions made from about 1962 to 1967. Most were also raced; one was given to Russian Yuri Gagarin (the first astronaut) as a gift. I've had mine for 25 years but it's all apart at this time, I plan on doing a resto eventually...real life sucks..

Ahhh Kids! Must be nice bein' young...the weight of the world not yet on your back, and all the wonderful events (like global warming, and the draft) to look forward to...
Anyhoo, here's a pic of my Chaos three years ago, when it was "new"; actually "slightly used" $60.00 from some guy at a Carl's Jr. in the San Fernando Valley. It had barely been broken-in, and of course already had a stripped rear pinion..."so it began"

yes being young has its perks, but its very hard and stressfully at the same time. fresh out of collage and competeing with people with years of expirance for jobs is tough. people want to hire people with experiance not a young kid

How much did you guys pay for the (blue) aluminum hub assemblies? How hard are they to find? Someone is parting out their Chaos and has a set for $45. I think that is fairly high when one, they are used and two, the Chaos itself is valued around $80. lol I could see paying that price when the Chaos was new and was going for around $260.

I don't remember what the various alum upgrades cost, but they were not very expensive back when they were "readily available" at your local hobby shops...

RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
I got some aluminum upgrades for my Chaos. Found a 7 piece set that included front and rear support bars. Which mounted to the existing holes on the skid plate. I also shorted the fuel lines, which I noticed others had done so on their Chaos.Whichseems to help it start quicker.
I will probably take it out again over the holiday weekend. Haven't ran it for almost two weeks due to weather. But, will have to show my Dad how quick this little buggy is while he is here for Thanksgiving weekend. It just might spark his interest to get another R/C. lol
Wish you all a great Thanksgiving!

Nice Upgrades G!
I had only heard of the support brace and seen pics of it on a Piktor Miwi; anything to stiffen-up the chassis can't hurt.
Have fun runnin' it , BUT keep an eye on the diffs...I usually let it cool down between runs, AND during runs I vary the speed with only a few sustained WOT tach runs. Like I said before, with the Trinity pinions and my patented Quick-Refill System I haven't been having issues with blown gears. Last time I ran it the small C-clip on the clutch fell off...it still ran "OK" but stalled a couple times. I fixed it and will test it today at work in our huge new concrete parking lot. I like the new, smaller Crimefighter tires I got recently. They have small knobs and get a lot better traction then the x-tread Mini-Inferno set that I ran down to bald... I'm rambling...

RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
So far I've only ran 3 tanks through it since getting it from someone else. Not sure how they ran it, but it seems to be broken in fine and in great shape. I to plan to stick to paved parking lots at least until next spring. I have been driving it at varied speeds and haven't had any differential problems. I did bend up my exhaust tip a little the last time out when it caught the edge of the pavement going over an incline. But, it still functions and is only cosmetic. I may replace the pipe later on just to make it look better. I have read the Chaos has differential problems but not sure what to do about them? Ihaven't taken one apart yet. How often should someone take them apart and check them? If so, should Ibe refilling with grease each time? Also are the Trinity pinions you talk about for the Chaos or a capable Mini Inferno or Vulcan part? I've noticed it doesn't stop well, not sure if my brake needs adjusting. I've also read where you can do something to make it use all 4 tires to stop. I'd like to do that as it takesseveral feet for my car to stop. I've come close to hitting stuff because it doesn't stop quick enough. The tires in my photos are new factory Chaos tires which haven't seen use yet. I have put the original tires back on for each run. They are my "street" tires. I will use the new tires when Itake it to a hard packed dirt track or field eventually.

RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
I don't have any spare engines but I have seen some fairly cheapon Ebay ($15-20). That is where Ihave been finding some of my extra parts as my local hobby shops don't carry Chaos parts. I am a rookie when it comes to nitro enginesand learning about them myself. But alot of the guys on thisthread are experts, hopefully they reply soon and maybe can help you out getting yours running.
Anyone seen the aftermarket bumpers by TBR (T-Bone Racing)? They make them for all sorts of R/C cars and trucks but most importantly they make them for the CHAOS!! They are about $10 per bumper. You can get both front and rear bumpers. I am thinking of at least getting the front to protect it from any collisions. Not sure about getting the back as the car doesn't have reverse and also don't want to add any unnecessary extra weight. Although they are made of nylon and weigh very little but really durable. Here are some pics of the bumpers on a Chaos. Check out their website: http://t-bone-racing.com/

RE: SPORTWERKS chaos 1/16 buggy
i'd go the tablet, unless the biggest RC you have is a chaos, if not then the tablet all the way and plus if you're on a $300 budget (you'll need to spend at least that to get it running) you'll allready have $50 saved up for a new RC thing-a-mabob, or a sweet CAD program to go with that tablet but those are EXPENSIVE
those are my thoughts
btw how are those diffs coming???
