I would still look at the Mini-T Pro though.. Then you can buy better electronics for it in the beginning and it comes with a few better parts.

I have a mini T and a rc18mt, and really they are both pretty good. I have to say, I had a micro T and it sucked. Added a few upgrades to see If I could make it decent but in the end sold it. It would be ok for someone who has really limited space and either thin carpet or a hard floor.

4WD is sooooo much better than 2WD, but thats my opinion for off-roading. otherwise for speed and inside use the mini t is your best bet.
I have just got a MLST2 and it dominates on rough terrain!!

RE: what mini to get...
I have owned the RC18MT, it was OK, with one major problem though - The servo saver sucks! It would get stuck when turning hard due to the "C" type spring, it would be off one way, then off the other in just a few seconds. I spent a lot of money and time trying to fix it, someone here may know of a fix, but until then my vote has to be for the Mini-T, especially if you are racing on not so rough terrain. Also, there are tons of hop-ups for both, and there are many different RTR's available. However, personally, I love to build, so I would prefer the kit.
Thanks & be good!
