I think the desert racer would be a great platform to try out the new 1/36th scale BL from Losi. The extra inch in chassis lenght should prevent as many wheelies

If you do it right I think it would be a blast. You just need to extend the chassis a bit (prevent all the massive wheelies) and make sure the tranny is in good shape.

fastest micro is clocked at 51 mph i believe.. 
and gearing plays a roll in keeping it on the ground too.. if you gear it wrong, itll pop up taking off real slow.. its something you would have to be up to have and up to work with, but once you get it how you want it, im sure it would be a lot of fun.
