I kind of looked at everything inside as it came apart in my hands. Is there some slop in the differential? Everything seemed pretty tight, but I am just guessing since I don't have anything to compare it to. I have to admit, it was rather rewarding to put it all back together and find out that it still ran. And, no extra pieces when I was done! Even better. The engineering that goes behind these things is just incredible to me. I think next will be batteries and motor!!
By slop you mean being able to twist it side to side easily or? A little movement is fine, the general idea is to turn the diff set screw in all the way (or almost) and then back off a quarter (to) a half turn. I keep it at a quarter so as the new parts wear in it won't loosen up way to much. Anyone here use MIP Orange grease on their diff's I have and man that stuff works good... it doesn't get all dry and caked up like the stealth stuff [:'(] Now to find more when I run out (thinks... email to MIP )

Am I the only one who checked out voodoorc.com? It's basically a resuscitation of one18th forums! (it's almost as if nobody knows it's back yet but the archives are all there)

Personally, I don't like web sites with Black back grounds. Hurts my eyes after a while. Especially when I switch over to a site with a white back ground.

I agree, but it's content is worth squinting over. And in all fairness one18th was always black...

I know and that is one of the reasons I stayed off the site. I also think there were a lot of kids on that site that didn't help the professionalism of the content.

I just got 1 of these so I thought I'd revive the thread. Got it used but it came with a ton of hopups and even more hopups in a box from when it was an 18t. It needs a motor and I'm planning on going with brushed for now because all I have are nimh packs. It came with this: http://www.teamassociated.com/cars_a...s_accessories/  (aluminum mount/heatsink) and I have an extra duratrax vr3 motor and esc but the can is a little bigger than the heatsink will allow. I also have a bunch of 2mm pinions for it so I'd like to stick to that shaft size. Any motor recommendations? I'll be running on a tight carpet track so not looking for speed. Would a BL motor and nimh packs be okay?

Well, I guess it's a little late now, but I think you should have went with this.

http://www.shop.gotnitroonline.com/p...7&categoryId=1

They are very fast and don't really need any upgrades. It's not too late to sell yours and get one. I had two and they are screaming fast.

Check out the size comparison.

I saw that, but since I will be racing on carpet, I need to be in the 1/18th scale. I plan to race my vendetta tc in the mod class and the 18r in the spec class. That is a pretty smoking deal though.

I just picked up a 18r.

First question, my steering seems a litle weird. When I turn, the wheels turn but then when I let go of the wheel, the wheels dont go back to center. I have to turn the wheel again to make them straight. What causes this and how can I fix it?

Next, what are some first upgrades to do to the 18r? I have seen people say to get a gear cover. Who makes it and where can I get one?

Also, I plan on upgrading to a BL system sometime down the road. What is a good setup and kv for just driving around in the street, no racing or anything.

The issue with the crappy err ummmm.... Non-precise steering....is the servo saver...

Granted, when you drive this thing, it seems pretty good....but take a look at the rc18t2 (belt version)

It has a Whole new (real type 1/10 scale) servo saver...

I have the intigey entire steering setup, but am going to send it back....

Anyone know if you can place the NEW system from the new 18t2 ??
My guess is it does, as the sytem is instock limited qt's...means hot item...

Other issues....:
Hit something with front a-arms.....one of 3-things happen.....
1. pull the hing pin through the lower arm
2. pull hing pin throug front bumper
3. pull hing pin through/out of the actuall chassis...

All of these happend to me....
Looks like Associated solved the (having to buy a whole chassis plate) by haveing a separate bulkhead from chasis....on the T2 version....

The chassis only is 3$ so not bad...but still, a PITA to do..

I would think the stearing deal would be High on the list to do on this truck...

I am ordering it as I speak....

Have you looked at any pictures of the belt driven RC18's?

It definitely looks like you'll be missing critical anchor points for the bellcrank on both the chassis and the top plate, problem is on both version the chassis and the top plate are also used to mount the motor, spur and differentials. And the new setup uses a transverse mount while the old uses longitudinal. It looks like if you're gonna do the swap, you're gonna have to do the whole thing.

Oh yeah the DP drag link works great at taking the slop out but in the right kind of dust the stock servo saver jams stuck on one side or centers erratically and it really sucks when that happens. And once it wears, the two parts of the servo saver no longer slide smoothly against each other and cleaning it won't help.

I looked some at the photo's of the 18t2....I must have missed the Top support pieces.....
I wasn't worried about the bottom, As I can easily drill some holes in the chassis...

I could fabricate a top braket..... for the assembly, or work in the kITS plastic piece...\

I will have to look at some more photo's......

I guess the stearing isn't all bad, as it seems I have fairly decent stearing when rolling, it just looks bad when stoped and you
turn the wheels....And the servo saver kicks in....
I guess it does it's job of keeping the servo gears safe...

Those of us that have had any of the RC18's have had to deal with it since the cars were released.
Lots of ways of getting around it, from any of the various "fixes" people have come up with for the stock servosaver to simply upgrading it to a real one. I'd bet there are at least a hundred posts relating to fixing it. Try "search."
The alloy link kit is just bling, it fixes nothing.
The new 18t2 set-up won't fit, doesn't work the same, and the chassis plates are different.
But there's nothing saying you can't find another way of fixing using 18t2 parts, and a little ingenuity. That's what makes this a hobby.

Rule of RCing #1 = If you run into anything that's hard enough, and do it going fast enough, you're going to break something.
Rule of RCing #2 = If you don't want to break things, don't hit things.
Rule of RCing #3 = Slow down.

crunchNmunch, I politely disagree with your 2nd and 3rd rule of RC and propose that it be replaced by "2: if you don't want to break it, shelf it" and 3: "if it feels like everything is under control you're going to slow"

Of course with a signature like yours such a statement is to be expected

It's actually funny that you say that because "Ride the edge between fast and disaster" used to be my signature. That was back when I was running fast electric boats.
I change my signature around once in a while, it's fun

I guess you never got the memo, being as those are Rules #'s 4 & 5. If you need a complete refresher I'd be happy to fill you in.

I recently got a used RC18R roller.  I also have a couple of Mini-Revos.  I am going to use the lipos I have for all of them.  I was wondering if the Traxxas VXL 3m motor will fit in the RC18R?   I know it's slightly larger than the 1/18 motors the RC18R uses but has anyone installed a VXL system in theirs?  If so, were any modifications had to be done and how did it perform?  If it won't work I plan to get one of the 1/18 brushless systems on market.  Thanks!

I managed to get a 380 motor into my rc18b but it was an extremely tight fit and leaves no room for electronics so if you do mount them the body doesnt fit. I had to use the pinion from the mini slash and that means its not mounted perfectly to the spur so who knows what brushless power would do if you did it my way.
