RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
same, here is a link to some pics
http://s863.photobucket.com/albums/a...20for%20BEAST/
and here is a link to the youtube vid, warning, very fast,

as, as far as mods, steel diffs are a must, even when shimmed, the plastic gears will still wear down over time. Also do not gun it from a stop, doing so will cause your spur gear to be eat'n nice and clean like. cvds from mip will not break as fast as the dogbones, but in the front they are a must since you will be steering. But with this power, over time, expect them to break. Mine last about 2-3 weeks before i need to replace.
I would like to add, Irecently got a cm-26 6800kv motor from castle clearance for 25 bucks, put that in my 18t and it performs great!!!! I have way more controll, power is far greater than any 1/18 motor i have used thus far. I would recommend this unless your only plan is to do high speed runs. Heres a vid of that one

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
Mine is way faster :P
http://vimeo.com/5266600
This was only with a 2 cell lipo. I ran it with a 3 cell a couple of times with the same gearing. Almost seriously injured some poor unsuspecting old man...

speaking of which, thats another mod you will need, the mip spool diff, i put it in the front, as the back caused me to wheelie and flip alot, also helped with steering

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
Very nice!
I think I am going to install a VXL system in my RC18R. I have an extra VXL motor from one of my Mini-Revos, just need to get an extra VXL ESC for it. With the RC18R body I will have more room under the body to mount the electronics. Will probably do the recommended upgrades as well to handle the brushless power.

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
remember to get a pinion gear for it to as the shaft is bigger, i think 16 or 17 was the smallest size i could use do to the motor position.

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
Revo uses 48p gears as opposed to 0.5m for the RC18. It will usually work but it will be loud and with all that extra power I would not expect your spur to last long.

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
congrats nugent, I hope you enjoy it.
I just wanted to post real quickly that anyone thinking about getting one of these should consider alternatives while doing so.
My son and I had two of these and they were money pits. That is if you want them to be bullet proof and very fast.
I sold them and bought two IRC Photon V2 brushless buggies with on road conversion kits. They were RTR with brushless motors and 3s lipos, full steel drive train, full ball bearings and adjustable oil filled shocks for under $200 and they were pretty much bullet proof.
Pics of the past
I especially loved the adjustable battery post on the IRC Photon, made fitting other batteries in very easy

Oh, and check out the $70 brushless buggy that Hobbycity is putting out. They have replacement parts on the site and they are cheap too. I wish these were out when I bought mine.

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
If you have the money Iwould recommend the 1/18 Castle Mamba Micro system. If you don't want to spend that much the 1/18 Dynamite Fuze system would be good or try your luck with an off brand. I was planning on saving for the Castle system or trying to fit a 1/16 VXLsystem in mine.

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
I still have mine, but I just don't drive the RC cars that much anymore. I'll likely take it out this spring and get the bug all over again.
I've been curious about converting it to R2 (belt drive) but it seems like a lot to buy;
chassis, top plate, belt, diff housing, diffs, motor mount, spur, pulleys, probably bumpers, body mount posts... and that's probably not all.
Or maybe I should get an RTR and scavenge as many good upgrades I can from my current 18R that transfer over (guessing at least shocks, ti pins, ti screws, 3racing shocks and ti turbuckles will carry over nicely)

RE: OFFICAL RC18R THREAD
Hey I was wondering if anyone could please help me with any information leading to a complete build of this chassis. I want to order the Carbon fiber kit that is about 50ish on ebay and use that as a starting point for this build. I just need to find information as to what exactly to I need to build. Like a build manual or something.
Thank you
Thank you

check out exotekracing first, its 100 bucks for a carbon fiber kit, and its an upgrade from the stock chassis. but you also get a bunch of other pieces that if your building from the ground up, you will need to get anyways.

how much ground clearance can be got out of one of these? Id like to be able to swap in some dirt tires and use it like a rally car.

Not much maybe 4-5MM
It's the last thing I'd consider for gravel use... If you want a rally car that would work on gravel I suggest you get something bigger like a tamiya DF03 RA. (bonus; its bodies are actually pretty close to scale)
