Default Norvel 061- loose venturis

My flying buddy and I each have a Norvel BigMig 061 (CL), which we've been using regularly for about the last 3 years. On both engines, the venturi has become quite loose and wobbly (perhaps due to the o-ring getting tired?). Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, what's the best fix?

Cheers
Steve

Remove it, clean it and apply silicon or rtv sealer and reinstall.

Check the NORVEL FAQ sticky at the top of the forum - post #18.

Steve,

I agree with Andrew's idea.  I have shamelessly stolen his idea from that sticky and employed it with great results in several applications.  Highly recommended!  I now use this idea in place of new O rings.  Andrew, thank you again for sharing some of your ingenious ideas with us.

Good luck with it.  I hope you get the same results I did.

I thought the control line venturis were all glued in at the factory with something like JB Weld? I had one of those come undone once and glued it back in.

CP

The early versions were glue only, but when the castings were modified for bolt-on carbs, both the R/C and C/L used the thru-bolt mount. These bolt-on venturis were included with the later AAN notched cylinder model and all the Revlite versions. They still had a sealant applied, but it was thinner than JB Weld, almost like a shellac. As it aged, when the carb was pulled, it would flake off.

Thanks for the replies. The strange thing was that after I removed the venturi for cleaning and reassembled it, it felt quite solid again. Perhaps the o-ring expanded a little once removed from the engine, but in any case I expect the problem will recur and I'll go with Andrew's idea.

Cheers

I have had great results from just replacing the o-ring with an original, and also with a slightly larger one (hardware store). This pretty much goes for all size Norvel motors.
