12 oz thrust on the ground ain't bad, my friend. My opinion is it will unwind quite a bit more in the air, should be pretty fast. If the plane weighs just 24 oz, you'll be over 50% power/weight ratio...that's very good.

Well l have already have a base line from small 2 Blade props.
Tons of new fans / rotors and 3 blade props out there to select.

2 blade 3.5x3.5 Prop / 35% Nitro / 20% oil / 84F / 6 to 10 mph winds
Best static 24,644 rpm / 82 mph / Best pass 30,742 rpm /102 mph per prop calc.
Per Doppler Reading E-flite 3.5x3.5 best pass 105.12 mph

2 Blade 3030 Carbon Prop:
Best Static 30,684 / 87.2 mph / Per Prop Calc.
Static at launch 29,985 rpm / best pass 37,304 rpm /106 mph
Doppler Readings - Carbon 3030 best pass 106.48 mph
Screamer but weak on thrust (3030 3 blade would be worth trying)

Would be good with the TD .09 or .15
4.7in dynamically balance carbon / plastic
Bullet spinner for easy starts.

Have you seen any of the little EDFs in action..?
If so, have you seen any that were impressive...?
I'd rather ask this question to a Glow Engine guy, than ask it to an Electric Only Guy who doesn't know any better....LOL.

They have micro size 30mm fans busting 100mph on 45 -55 watts as I recall.
I have done 3 electric ducted fan jets 1 used a 3 blade prop to keep the load down.
Thrust was good speed was good for a 4P about 70 mph. with a 60w brushless 2S.
RPM was only around 25k static.

Here is the mojo..

Will take 42w / 29.6k rpm / 111mph
Can use the TD .020 spinner to start it.
Two layers of the 1/64 ply for a shroud epoxy coated on inside.


I bought two in the mail will use back cut to help keep the load down. Think a 2.75 x 3.95
will do a bit better on the top end.

Cp yes I have and played with many of them even a small 22 mm one in a two ounce plane. you will lose a lot of thrust with the cylinder in the fan. it would be best if you could move the fan a head of the engine with a small split duct and keep the cylinder out of the fan and let it be air cooled. Or turn now the fins on the TD 20

I played around with the Kyosho fan with a OS 18 car engine and it turned that fan around 26,000. The plane was very fast to 18 mph then just didn't go any faster as it was sucking to much air and then stalled the fan. It needs good smooth airflow into it. I would say a good 65 to 70mm 10-12 blade fan. Never really know till you play around with it. More rpm the better as most of these fans do not unload in the air like a prop plane does so you can pipe them for the rpm you want on the ground.

I think a 1/12 scale ME 163 DF model would be a great project..but only if there was no doubt about it turning out fast enough to be impressive.

With the TD .020 I have a 3.5 x 3.5 tested open air unloaded to 30.6k rpm good for 105mph
This design has a pin hinged nose to access the spinner for starting the shroud hides up in
the canopy. The nose locks down with small rare earth magnets. The nose holds the battery
and RX / switch. 1 servo in each wing this is a swept flying wing so CG is further back and large vertical
stab for stability the design by nature is light. No throttle all up weight around 3.8oz. The NANO -TD .020
came in at 3.42oz so 3.8oz for the jet should be easy enough full size rendering. May do a remote
glow start will be under a mag hatched half canopy which also has the fill port for the pod tank.
Breather tube is metal drops straight down into the shroud which is the over fill tube as well. Shroud is
reduced a reasonable percentage to bring up some velocity.

3B / 2.5 x 3.95 should get better static 26k + plus and will unload at least 30k / 110 mph.
Down wind passes should be a treat. 63.5mm rotor in comparison and should make at least 2.5oz thrust static.

Just two servo extensions leave the nose section to the wings the rest stays up front. Will bench test as a
3 x 3.95 for a base line reading then trim if need be, will try to stay up around 3 oz thrust.

Prop calc says static the TD .020 can do 41w / 3 x 3.95 / 3.3oz thrust / 97 mph / unloaded 112 mph.
Simple design for less fuss minimal load on the engine is key for a TD. The shroud will be sealed less
the NV access piano wire style for minimal hole. Sealed metal tube junction for the fill tube. Other than
that the rest is dirty dog to assist as a stator, least things will be cooled well enough to perhaps reduce
engine and glow plug fins. I live in Texas so don't see that happening this thing will be flying in 90F +
40sq in span / 10cc tank, ply / balsa build.

For this fan jet I dub thee FANG -TD.020

Full scale if you have at least a 20in monitor.
