Throttled TD .020
Pictured is my attempts at throttling the TD .020. At first, a neat little throttle was tried which is made by John engines of Czechoslovakia. Despite having an adjustable airbleed, this arrangement was not satisfactory. This isn't surprising as TDs of any size just don't like to be throttled at the intake. Surprisingly though, the muffler/exhaust throttle arrangement didn't work all that well either. Surprising because both the .010 and the .049 perform nicely with this design of exhaust throttle. However, coupling the two throttle arrangements worked. This follows the pattern of early RC engines where the throttle was coupled to an exhaust baffle.

RE: Throttled TD .020
MR Flyer57,
I assume by "that exact method" you mean the bullet type? I didn't do up a bullet type for the .020 because the barrel type is easier to make and because there was no difference in performance between the two. On the .020, the barrel exhaust throttle was tried on its own and throttling wasn't the best. Only when carb AND exhaust throttling was tried together was I satisfied. It could be that a bullet type would work better, for some reason, on the .020 but I can't see how, given that the .049 responds to the barrel type just fine. I suppose that you never know till you try but I'm satisfied that it wouldn't make any difference.
