cox head to take a turbo plug deal...
For one of my next projects, i will be needing a couple of cox heads. (5)
But rather than try to buy them on the net, (or use.. shock, horror, norvel heads!) I thought I will use cox plugs that have been converted to take a `turbo`plug as i can get these cheaply in a variety of heat ranges here in Japan. These have a taper seat and offer very little performance drop if any over a norvel/ cox plug.
These also offer an advantage in that you can experiment with compression ratios and plug heat ranges -you can for example run with high nitro and high compression and a colder plug.
So here is the deal.
You send me two dead cox plugs, and i will convert one for you and send it back (I pay the postage) I will also include one o.s turbo plug for free, of any heat range you like (O.S come in cold, med and hot) but i recommend med.- it seems to behave very much like the stock filament.
I will garantee i will return post to you within 7days of recieving plugs.
I`d really like to get cox high compression heads at this stage- so at this time I`d like one dead cox high compression plug inreturn for the above deal.

Hey, Jman,
Count me in. I have at least four burnt out high compression heads I can donate. These are in excellent condition with intact wrench slots.
Send me a PM with your address and I'll pass them on.

Wow! thanks for the quick responses! .. I appreciate it you guys!
Anyone have a burntout .074 norvel plug? I also need one of these.. my conversion for my norvel is a fabricated one and it is not very good.
Some Pictures of what it looks like. note this is a standard head - its my only cox head in japan!
My reed engine runs very strongly with this head- it is slightly higher compression than stock from the slight flat of the bottom of the plug- and it idles really well.
My norvel 0.061 bigmig also idles very well with a converted norvel plug/head and a cold plug (even!)

If you have one that you wnat me to convert I`d gladly do it for you- but there is precious little room for error and if there is a slight machining discrepency (especially on my part!!)there may not be enough meat to cut the M8fine thread.. so if you want me to give it a go- I`ll try but no garuntees! that said, it SHOULD be o.k[8D]

J Man,
If there's not a lot of meat on the stock Norvel plug for which to convert to a turbo plug, How about I make up a blank or two for you with as much meat as required. Just send me specs.

Thats really kind of you to offer.
I have reemed my .074 "head clamp" (the finned, threaded bit that screws down on top of the plug) out to an I.D of 10.5mm so if you could make an exact copy of a normal .074 plug face (combustion chamber/bowl profile)and flange- but make the body 10mm Diameter instead of its normal 8.8?mm, and drill it through 4mm (no more than 4.5mm, this is important) that`d be great!

Have you tried making an adapter for a turbo plug?
They have a smaller filament hole than a standard plug- and a much wider selection of heat ranges.

you are referring to the os turbo plugs right? No I havent. I would be intrested in trying it to see if it gets better running than my design.

With an o.s medium turbo plug i got a bit stronger running after converting a cox std head-
I am not just trying to do a big sell here when i say i think they are quite possibly the best plugs avaiable for performance applications. Just going by what i think is going to be good, and the very limited experience i have running them mind.

This is the site of Larry Driscol. He carries a Nelson plug adapter for about $10 that takes the Nelson plug (cost less than $4) and they last a lot longer than a TeeDee plug. Further up side is that they actually run faster than the stock tee dee high compression head!!

Faif2d,
Yes, I've run the Nelsons on Cox and Norvels and they do a very good job. [sm=thumbup.gif] The advantage, though, to the turbo idea is that they come in a large variety of heat ranges with several makes being available. This broadens the experimental possibilities. [sm=tongue.gif]

Hey Steve and everyone; Well actually, I moved last year, and got a cable hookup and a new address: kittingittogether.com (kept the same dog and wife)
Three calls (over several months) to my old ISP have failed to get the old site taken down and failed to get the old mailbox closed, a mailbox that I no longer pay for and no longer check for mail, so it is over-flowed and inop and probably full of important emails that have folks wondering why I never answer my mail.
