Default Fuel proof paint on foam ?

Does anybody know of a fuel proof paint that will not attack expanded foam or do I just have to shoot the plane with a clear epoxy ? Thanks Rad

HI RAD Use water based poster paint, then use water based polyurethane as a fuel proofer. This is a fairly heavy technique, compared to low temp covering film.

You could try what I'm thinking of. Use art store coloured tissue "doped" on with the water based polyurethane. The paper will act as a stiffening skin and add color at the same time. Overlay patterns as desired. A bit extra water added to the poly will make the tissue lay on the foam like a wet towel. Do the first color layer and any trim in one go, let dry and apply a top coat after sanding with super fine paper. The top coat can be quite thin I would imagine.

I have not tried this yet but I'm planning on it. Should make for a stiff but quite light wing. Unlike the low temp films the tissue should add quite a bit more strength.

On the little delta I knocked up in a day or so, I just used thined PVA to add a layer of tissue and then hit it with a coat of polyeurethene spray enamel from the cheapest aerosol I could find.

If you dont spill fuel all over your plane, then you can paint with a water base paint and leave it at that. Exhaust residue will not damage the paint. I run 25% and never had a problem with paint.Funny though, i have had more trouble with tape ripping off the paint than any glow related issues.Regards Chris.
