Default Norvel exhaust deflector

Hello all, Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can use for an exhaust defletor on a Norvel .061. I want to get the goop down and away from my plane.

Thanks

Darren

Norvel sells silicone tupe just the right size. After melting off a plastic tube extension I bought one and it is still in use. I had to repair a Dave Brown Sixshooter pump and bought the repair kit which included silicone tube just the right size. I replaced the old tubing in the pump with new and used the old for Norvel exhaust extensions. It works better than the stuff ordered from norvel.
Another option is to use a "FLY QUIET" tuned pipe. It quiets the exhaust note, increases power and redirects the residue about a foot further back.

Mike, how much of a power increase do you get and who sells them?

Thank You,

I found them on ebay. Do a search for fly quiet.
They are designed to raise torque at a lower rpm than with just a muffler. The flexable material that they are made of absorbs sound and the lower rpm the allow quiets the prop noise. I have not done the testing to substantiate their numbers. Go to their web site and make your own judgement.

i use general silicones small exhaust deflectors. i think norvel made some red ones also. and duratrax extensions for their maximum mt truck fit well, too; they are blue. a freind had the norvel "tuned pipe" once. never got it to increase performance, but a neat idea.

a lot cheaper than deflectors is the tube used in construction for a water level. It is transparent and extremely cheap, and wont suffer fron fuel or heat. Besides it´s the ideal size so it wont fall or be too hard to plug in. Only thing is that it turns a little red with red fuels.

Good luck

Gentlemen:

On the Tiggerkitty I have a pair of the genuine AMD engines, their exhaust stacks are straight out the back of the muffler instead of having the nubbin out at an angle as on the Norvel supplied engines. This allowed me to run piping through the nacelles with a rear mounted outlet. See pictures.

If you get ambitious with a lathe you could make new rear caps for th Norvel mufflers to do the same thing.

Bill.

"Lathe and Ambition" Quite a combonation! Dang I only have one of the two and it aint the lathe. By the way Bill nice pics of your work on the Tiggerkitty. Also the B-25 is on the way.

Darren:

Thanks for the kind words about the Tiggerkitty. Being a woman, she appreciates all compliments. My oldest (and first) r/c twin. She's the plane in my avatar.

Thanks for the B-25 also, I'm looking forward to its arrival.

Bil.
