try some of the kart racing sites too- you may be able to save on shipping and price.

SIG, from your LHS or directly from SIG.

Like George said, you can get it directly from SIG at this [link=http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/MainMenuFV3.html?E+Sig]link.[/link]. I use BENOL from [link=http://www.clementsracing.com/item453246.ctlg]Clements Racing[/link]. BENOL is the castor component in Wildcat fuels and was used in the NORVEL NVX when Wildcat was mixing their fuel.

The SIG castor likely does just as well, but I've had good results with the BENOL.

Or go to your local food wholesaler and buy "Baker's AA" castor oil. Same-same as Sig's, and a whale of a lot cheaper.

Remember a lot of guys live in small towns like me, that have no such thing as a wholesaler for anything, never mind even a hobby shop! Luckily, Sig castor is not classed as a hazardous item and you can get a pint/quart or gallon sent through the mail. I used to buy the pints then a few years ago got myself a gallon and its going to last me a few more Seems to have a great shelf life as well.

AJ:

High grade castor oil has an indefinite shelf life, as long as it's not contaminated. Back in th old car racing days, driving the small British cars with real castor oil in the engines, we could leave fresh oil in the engine for a long time. The minute you took it out to race the clock started. Turn some fast laps and you had to change the oil within a day or two, else it would congeal and clog the oil passages.

Our model engines don't have that concern.

Cool Bill, I wondered how long it would keep, but never knew the answer....

Did you ever hear of pure castor going rancid? I know I have read about it before when mixed in fuel but never in its pure state. I keep my jug in a dark, cool storage area and havent had any problems as of yet.

I use medical grade castor from a Walgreens pharmacy. You can usually get it at any good pharmacy, and its not a whole lot pricier than bulk hobby shop stuff. If you are only mixing a small batch, it can be a good way to go.

(Prior to SMALL this year, I promised to provide fuel for Skaliwag, who was coming out of town. I got the fuel, but I forgot to buy a large bottle of castor at the LHS before it closed. I stopped by Walgreens on the way to the event and picked up a bottle. Was enough for all of our .010s for the whole weekend....)

AJ:

I've never had the AA grade go rancid, nor have I had it congeal in the original sealed container.

If you don't use a large volume, buy it in smaller containers as its exposure to the atmosphere will eventually cause its deterioration. Not as bad as moisture contamination in your glow fuel, but it will eventually kill it after the liquid level gets low.

Or you could buy a five gallon can and pour it into 20 one quart bottles.

Wow, if you are buying castor in such small dollops, then I best become the designated fuel dude for the 2005 North Little Rock S.M.A.L.L. and haul it over from Texas.

The standard mix is 30% nitro, 20% SIG castor and the rest alcohol. Variations honored.

Place your requests!

That's great Larry, ... We have to fly in and can't bring our own. [sm=thumbup.gif]
You can set up a consession stand and sell personalized blends to the Gang.
