Ok after i saw this on another post and now i feel like i have to built a bipe. Mr Matthews this is looking soo beutiful. I know that bipes are not for a beginer or intermidiate pilots. And i wouldnt try to fly a pitts or something.
My question is is there any bipe plane kit out there that would fly easily that has only rudder and elevator controls that could fly a little slower and maybe glide fairly?? Any sugestions??
I would say maximum .074 size?

The Dakota would be an exellent choice for a starter model. I spent most of my basic beginer stick time with one I built from Joe's original plans.
It started life with an old Wen Mac on the front, was "souped" up with an old Cox 049 and ended up with a PAW 55R/C to give me many.. Yeah Many flights of Quality stick time. The kit put out byBMJR is first class. The plan is from Joe's original blueprints.
BMJR also does a stick biplane for electric.
Another Bi-plane kit that comes to mind is by "Designs That Fly". [email protected]

I have flown one of these with a Norvel.061 at the SMALL 2002, Flys really well.

There was an enlarge and built up Dakota design in a model mag a few years back. Not sure who was the designer or what magazine it was.
As well as that there's an Elf biplane plan on line that would be fine for RET even for a beginner flyer. But it needs some building experience as it's all sticks.
There's nothing wrong with a good biplane for what you want to do. You just need to find one that isn't an acro horse.
The original Dakota shown here is a small model at around 24 inch span. Blown up to about 36 and modified to built up wings or perhaps a thicker Jedelsky type and I suspect it would be a fun model for an 074. It would be a real lumber yard if made from all sheet though so you'd need to pick your wood to keep it to 5 to 6 lb stock or the weight would get out of control really quickly. Perhaps switching to a Ken Willard style 1/32 sheet top and bottom flat bottomed style airfoil would be best.

Interesting that you mention RCM. I purchased (or at least paid for) a set of plans for a Lazy Ace from RCM on eBay and never received them. I received one email response saying they would "investigate", but no plans and no response to further emails.

jessiej - if you go to the rcm homepage - www.rcmmagazine.com and scroll down most of the way and look on the left side you'll see something like this -- RCM Plans Notice BUYER BEWARE. There's a little blurb about how many websites they have shut down for fraud. Sorry you had that trouble. I don't buy plans off ebay anymore. Too many fibbers. Like selling copied control line plans as R/C plans.[:'(]

RCM sells their plans cheaper than anyone else, and I really appreciate that. The AMA charges its own members more for comparable plans than RCM does. Whenever I've seen used ones on ebay they cost about as much as buying brand new direct from RCM. I've bought more plans from RCM than I'm ever likely to build, but full size plans make great reference material and I'm always glad to give them my business. They've got the Schoolgirl and the All Star, among many other. Jim

Did you decide on a Biplane to build? Someone mentioned an Ace All Star, I just picked one up and am quite dissapointed with the quality of the die cutting. The dies must have got really bad before they discontinued the model. I wouldn't buy one unless you see it first. Ace still does the Simple bipe ( I believe) but it needs a 15.

I had an ACE Simple Ultimate and it is a really nice plane, but I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner.
There isn't much out there for 1/2A bipes. The Designs That Fly biplane looks like the best one available for the beginner, but the web site doesn't seem to functioning anymore. Judging by pictures, the Schoolgirl should make a good first time bipe if you can find plans.

Agreed.... the Schoolgirl is a gentle flyer but you have to scratch build. The Biplane by Designs That Fly is still available from Mike...

If you go with the all star bipe, don't go over a mild .15. In fact, the designer stated in several articles that it was airobatic with an OS Pet 09. I had mine drilled for both a Fox Schnuerle 15 an an HP baffled 15. The Fox would have overpowered it. I had several people ask me how I got it to fly so well when they couldn't safely get theirs off the runway. Turned out they were trying to use 21s, 25s, and such. After all, evryone knows you can't overpower a plane. Bet me! Torque Roll city.
